Or as we say in the software biz "That's not a bug; it's a Feature!"

My XS750F had self-canceling turn signals; every Yamaha since then has had them...except one...

Happy Friday, everyone.

Hey this guy isn't really from Albuquerque, he must just be visiting from the east coast! :assassin: :assassin: :assassin:

Less than 2000 miles on my 08 FJR and I have this problem: I Put the bike into first gear with the clutch pulled in and the side stand down and engine dies. If I re-start the engine in neutral, put the side stqnd up, pull in the clutch put it into first then it will go. Any ideas?
I assume you have read the Owner's Manual by now and realize this is a safety feature designed into many bikes. However, you might want to be on the outlook for stalling problems.

I have an '08 that I bought from my sisiter-in -law. She had had stalling problem when coming to a stop. Supposedly her local Yamaha dealer fixed the problem, but it continued after I took over. When I took it to my dealer, they had to go through the throttle body to do the necessary adjustments and said it was obvious the other dealer had not done so. Following their work, not only did the stalling cease, but the throttle seemed less twitchy.

Any possibility you can detail what the dealer did to cure your stalling?

Many, MANY FJR pilots might benefit from the details.

The side stand issue is a simple case of FTRTFM.

(Failure to read the F*^&$ing manual.)

This thread reminds me of the one posted earlier this year by a younger fellow in Vermont - when rode his bike stop & go in hot weather, he was scared sh**less when he heard this loud whizzing sound, kind of like an electric fan.

My '03 has BOTH these issues, grrr. I'm going to buy a kawi next time

Anyone want to buy my low-mileage mint '03? :p

No bike that I have ever seen has an interlock on the clutch lever.
There are other motorcycles with different inter-lock 'patents' -- Suzuki (maybe?). You always have to disengage the clutch to start a (relatively recent) Suzuki (no matter what...) -- and I seem to remember a bike that would only kill the motor upon partial clutch release (engagement) when inter-locks were 'in-play'.
You know, this got me thinkin'. I always had to pull in the clutch to start my Bandit, even when in neutral. I never tried to start my FJR without pulling the clutch in. Force of habit, I guess.

I'll buy it if you can make it run on both wheels.
