Moto., Brundog is right on with his reply! The pre`06s are fire dragons, well criticized for a design that allowed an extrordinary amount of heat to reach the pilot.
Um, wrong, asbestos breath. Some pre '06's run hot, not all. Mine is just fine in hot ambient temps.
coo coo ka choo

mine too!

I have been having two problems. First, I am a forward sitting rider and get as close to the tank as possible without squeezing the cohones too much. When I ride in the daytime when the temperature is in the 90's, it gets so hot, it starts burning the insides of my thighs and the tank is so hot near where the seat is, it gets worrisome. I didn't have this problem until this summer, and am wondering if it is a major problem or something that happens to everybody. The second problem is that I was wondering if anyone gets some strange engine vibration that always starts when I hit 86 MPH exactly. It runs perfectly any other time until I get up to that speed. Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated, and Thanks!! :D
Yeah, the 'ole heat issue...great responses there. But since you're a FNG, I'll help you out with the vibration. First, you'll need to remove the battery, then find this component: (for clarity I photographed it the last time I had it out of my 05)

Following service manual guidelines, reset it so it engages *cleanly* at 88 MPH. Problem solved.

Oh, and hold on when testing.

I just want to thank everybody who wrote good responses to my questions. I actually found out right after I wrote the first post that the heat I get is from having low fuel in my tank. As for the vibration, I will test it out in different gears as some of you stated and go from there. So thanks again!!

Also, for those of you talking crap about me riding in a tank top and shorts, that wasn't funny. I take riding very seriously, and always ride in full protective gear. :trinibob:

If yer gonna hang here, better get ready for re-definition of some of your favorite terms such as "funny, fast, slow, vibration, ***, intelligent, hot," and "long distance". And lower your personal thermostat setting, or you'll blow fer sure. ;)

What an :asshat2: !! Yeah, that's funny alright!! What's with this FNG thing? I'll tell you. It doesn't mean crap!! All those so called "ranks" mean is that you like to run your mouth and live your high school days again being stupid to people. I have most likely been riding longer than you have been living. That's the real experience, not how many posts you have.

C'mon, moto. The flux capicator gag was FUNNY! It's the first thing that came to my mind when you said 86 MPH. I kept seeing Chris Lloyd telling Michael J. Fox he's gonna see some serious **** when this thing hits 88 MPH.

Most people here are a pretty good sort.

My '05 has responded well to miminum heat fixes. I've done the under-tank insulation, and the cheap fix of some pipe insulation between tank and seat, and some crammed into the fairings on each side. It's HOT where I ride (Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas), where all my girlfriends live (blood-kin cousins, of course).

I usually fill up every 150 to 160 miles. Rode 800 miles this past weekend, to Kerrville and back. It was a little warm on Saturday, but no heat issues.

Welcome aboard, and lighten up, Francis. :)

The flux capacitor thing was a good un. Well done nusman68!

Uhh....I think a chill pill is in order here....................

What happened to the nice, reasonable poster from a couple posts above?

One thing I always liked about this forum was how they treated me when I first came on.

I have been on other forums that treated people like they were stupid just because it was their first post and didn't deem them worth their opinion until they had a lot of posts under their belts.

Lately it seems the people on here are acting like some of the other childish forum I have visited.

Like it or not the FJR was redesigned for a reason, it was hot.

Don't tell me it is because it is a 1300cc engine putting out huge HP because I happen to know that I sit on a bike that makes more HP and I have never had a problem with the kind of heat either reported by fjr owners or that I myself felt. If you don't, lucky you.

Look in the For Sale section and you will see that Smitty actually made and started selling insulating blankets to keep the heat off of him. Just knew better than to come in here and start bitching about it and did something.

Many things guys have done from the deflectors mounted on the mirrors, stuffing things in the sidepanels, on and on to lesson it.

In the end if your bike shows heat problems all you will ever do in my reading is maybe lesson it a little but nobody that has had one seems to have eliminated it completely. In the end many bought an 06...

Oh and Welcome to the Forum, these guys are usually some of the best. It is why I stick around here.

Hey, that's MISTER :asshat2: to you, motoskir....

Oh, and FYI I could care less about 'rank' or post count...but I can't pass up an opportunity for a laugh...even a cheesy one.

But if those kind of responses tick you off, well, good luck at this place. Here, you will find an abundance of available knowledge & experience, creative solutions, ingenious ideas, etc along with equal amounts of sarcasm, dry humor and plain old laugh-your-***-off funny ****! All in good fun, of course. B)
