EOM '06 Your Input Needed

Sounds like a good location and time to me... sept in boone. The wife and I will go to that as a birthday weekend for me =)

I'd prefer the cheaper hotel. I don't plan on spending much time laying around the hotel room, I plan on riding, then riding, and after that, riding some more =)

$31 for a free breakfast doesn't seem like its that great of a deal for me. I can go hit up any number of places and eat like a king for less than that. :assasin:

Hey slapnpop,

The Boone Area sounds great! I've heard lots about the area, but have only ridden through, rather than in. I live in the Knoxville/Alcoa/Maryville area, so I might be able to help out in some way, if needed. As far as Hotels, I'm game either way. As I remeber from EOM III, I payed $90/night at the Comfort Inn, and only got a coninental breakfast in the deal, so either hotel is cool with me.

I would much prefer September 9-10 for the EOM, since I have a conflict for 9/16-17. Don't really have a preference with respect to the hotel, but it would be nice if it had a bar in addition to indoor plumbing...

Price of Hotel not as important as being able to get everyone at the same place

I'll see if I can get a door prize from my dealership also

Travis, maybe you can get the tee shirt thing rolling earlier this year and more people will have a chance to buy one to help with any funds necessary.

Most important thing to nail down early is when to have it. I, like others, need to put my vacation request in early. Which particular hotel can be hashed out later.

While I live in FL, I have a mountain house in Boone and spend quite a bit of time each year riding throughout that region....I know the roads like the back of my hand. If you guys need any help in suggesting some great rides, let me know. You certainly want to schedule this event before Oct. as the leaf-lookers swarm the area after that....as others have observed. Sept. can be fickle as to weather conditions, but generally offers good daytime temps and cool to cold nights. Rain is a hit or miss thing about that time of the year. They have a very helpful Chamber of Commerce in Boone and a quick call to them will get you a mailing of more info than you need about lodging options. Between what's offered in Boone and Blowing Rock, there is no shortage of affordable places to stay. Good places to eat are all over the place. You got to remember, Boone has over 11,000 college kids running around....the town offers quite a lot to do and enjoy. And the riding in the high country is as good as it gets.

Seriously this area on down to the Smokey mountains has above average fog, which is no fun to ride in.

Sept temp for Asheville high 79 low 57 and thats about perfect for me.

I ran a topo map profile of my ride to Boone and saw that area is very mountainous with the roads going over 3500 feet.

I have never had the chance to explore that area.

Hotel--Where ever we can get the groupe together .

Date ---Whenever the majority wants to.

Dinner ---Yes lets eat it.

Rides--- as much as we can.

As far as donations...I don't have much faith in Yamaha of Knoxville; they seem to have a "You've bought your motorcycle, so leave us alone" kind of attitude. Good Times may be a better choice, but I don't know, since we will be in another area.

B) I was hoping that no one was really paying that much attention, other than that it should have stated that over September 10th weekend worked better for me.

Our vacations are done by senority and guess what!

I'm a ground crawer, just lucky I picked Laborday week!

EOM last year fell on a pre picked time so I was able to make that one.

It was a nice event, and you guessed it, no rear travel gear or riding gear so I looked like the bevely hillbillies with all that gear. :cownoy:

I road in with people two up that had less crap than I did. h34r:

Since EOM 05, I have purchased some riding gear so maybe I won't look like I'm moving in. :dribble:

I actually rode in to the EOM last year from Louisville on Saturday morning. I had stayed at my sisters in Louisville overnight on the way back from the Rockies.

I was camping at Mamouth Cave with my sister and her family last summer and two little kids from Texas camping next to us came over with autograph books. They wanted our signatures! Guess why? They had never met Hillbillys before

I actually rode in to the EOM last year from Louisville on Saturday morning.  I had stayed at my sisters in Louisville overnight on the way back from the Rockies.

That is one awesome picture of you on your FJR. I am guessing that you have heated grips and heated clothing?

Btw, were you keeping the beer from freezing in that soft mini ice chest on the back of your bike?

I have that same ice chest. It is neat farkle that matches our bikes.
