Or in Bungie's case, let the gps turn you in circles so people can tell you to get lost.

I think major kudos goes to Wayne/Extrememarine who has been "the Man" as far back as I've been attending...besides some other drunk guy that used a sharpie on his laptop screen. Wayne had carried the load. Kudos...

Get lost, and let the gps get you back...ideal IMO!18th-20th?
18-20 or 25-27 are the dates to vote on. This whole discussion just took a very nice turn. A hotel to accommodate us all would be nice and a restaurant that can do the same for an EOM dinner would be nice too. That's all we really need. Just my $.02 :)

I don't think anyone is trying to discredit Wayne...we all know he has done a great job...that's why we all keep showing up at this shindig.

So who's going to start the poll for the dates, hmmmmm?? ;)

Just an fyi, FJRay's Reuben Run is the 18-20. I know that probably doesn't affect most out the EOM way but might make a few have to choose.

Absolutely! I can just imagine all the hours of work that Wayne put into these events. Living a typical family life and going to school to boot. I don't know how he does all that. Must be a Jarhead thing! Semper Fi!! :D

If nothing else, this might be a way to give Wayne a break, and actually enjoy the freedom of having a good time without any worries. If just for a year.

I suggest we get the date set first, then continue with any planning on location, motel, etc..

Yeah, I doubt there are any restaurants that are going to be able to accommodate more than 100 people (based on pror numbers) for a group dinner. That is why it has always been a catered buffet type banquet, and that ends up being a big part of the organizer's headaches.

As it usually works, you really only get to talk with the people at your table anyway. For the amount of effort that goes into organizing the Saturday night banquet, I'd be willing to forgo it altogether.

IF it is decided that the simpler format will be adopted I'd say that the group dinner is one of the thing that has to fall by the wayside. Easy enough to just head out in smaller groups that won't overwhelm the restaurant. I recall the restaurant at the Brier Inn used to serve dinner as well as breakfast. Not sure if they still do.

Whoa, nelly... that is looking a bit like a hostile take-over attempt. IF the EOM organizers decide to change the format, that is 100% up to them. (some of whom do not even frequent this forum anymore) Not a bunch of posters on this forum. Voice your ideas (and your willingness to help out) but leave EOM up to the EOM organizers.

If EOM ends up not being in the format that you want it to be, you could always organize your own event (ideally on a different weekend) of your own choosing.

Since this is a poll thread it looks like the overwhelming majority are for going to Lewisburg. I believe those that volunteer to take up the EOM event don't normally do so until January sometime. So there's plenty of time for discussing. We may want to take this topic of keeping it simple to another thread or just wait a few months to see what's going to happen. Either way I hope to attend in 2015.

Hoping for a short winter season,

Dave

Si "if" it is going to be Lewisburg, there are a few on here like Greg/Geaser that have sampled (and know) the area and hotels. I would suggest them to chime in with some suggestions (all non committed ones of course) and we start building from there.

Since this discussion is early in the game, we've got plenty of room for revisions. KISS is favored I believe at this point.

A lot of us have spent time in Lewisburg, so there is no shortage of experience there. But I keep trying to tell you guys:

EOM ain't no democracy. It isn't up to us to decide.

You're on the wrong thread then! Did you not notice the topic, posts and especially the polls? This is (was) a wide open EOM location discussion from the get go.

True, Wayne and Co. carry the flag on this, but this thread was started as such discussion -and-. This is the fjrforum after-all!

No Fred, no "hostile takeover" going on. Just following the discussion thus far.
If the EOM organizers want to continue with what they put on, then I'm on board with that, and as I mentioned earlier, I would be willing to help while there. Someone floated the idea about simplifying the process, since there didn't appear to be anyone interested/capable of organizing such an event. That's what's brought us to this point. No one wants to step on any toes, so let the official organizers interject their thoughts on how to go further, I'm all ears.

Fred, you are becoming more like Howie every day. Whether you want to admit it, or not. :)

When I voted for Lewisburg in the poll I was thinking about the Quality Inn (ex-Brier Inn) because it is one of my favorite hotels to stop at when I'm on the road. The rooms are clean, the plumbing works, the beds are very comfortable, and they have a free hot breakfast. Overall it is a nice hotel and a step above what I usually expect for the price.

Wayne is aware of the Quality Inn and did contact them some years back to gauge their interest in having an EOM there, and they were not interested. That was at a time when there was a lot of windmill construction in the area and rooms were easily filled by the workers, so their attitude may have changed since then.

As far as I know, we have not heard from Wayne indicating that he can not run EOM 2015. I hope he does because he has done a very good job for many years. If he does not, then we can try to find someone else to run it and offer suggestions. Until Wayne steps down, I think it is his show and his decision about how complex the planning will be. He has asked us for our opinion about where we would like it to be, let's let him do his thing with the information he requested.

I think you are both right. To Fred's point (I think) the chatter was drifting away from "location" only...

Since this is a discussion/location thread is for a possible EOM, I wanna put in my backup location as SW Virginia.

I know a lot of you guys have done the likes of the Claw of the Dragon (Red), Possum Run (Green), Wooly Mamoth (Orange), Turkey Strut (Yellow) and Horn of the Cow (Blue). An area we should still keep in mind, IMO.

Just food for thought, and, I know some of you are visual learners

Wow. I learn something every day. I never knew all of those roads had motorcycle names. Thanks KJ.
