A comment by MartyA and a couple of threads jogged my failing memory.

The town of Gauley Bridge is now a certified speed trap.

DO NOT speed, not even 3 mph over when in the city limits. The same two fine outstanding LEOs that used to fund the entire city of Summersville with speeding tickets have migrated south and now work in Gauley Bridge. Rumor has it they write upwards of 100 tickets/day on weekends and are quite active on the weekdays as well.

Just to err on the side of caution, I still would NOT speed in Summersville, WV either, way too much history of a speed trap being there.

Both of these towns are along the EOM-4 route.

Be forwarned.

I'm kinda new to group riding, what is the etiquette if a group of 15 bikes are all doing a little over the posted speed limit and the fuzz lights up? Everyone stops? The first guys stops? The last guys stops? The cop on the FJR stops? or everyone runs (just like when egging the principals house at halloween) and the fuzz catches the first guy to end up in the weeds?

I want to make sure I know the drill if something happens.

Run.
Run like hell.

B)
Like the guys hiking and one told the other, if he sees a bear he's going to run.

His friend said... "You can't out run a bear!"

He replied... "I don't have to out run the bear ...I just have to out run YOU!"

Etiquette- (HA-HA, SNICKER-SNICKER) Is to go 5-10 miles up the road and wait for the poor ******* that got caught and let him join back up. In other words, don't be last in line

Hate needing my memory jogged! Thanks for remembering Jim. I knew that, just couldn't think of the town.

My XS rally went through Gauley Bridge last year after lunch at Hawks Nest. We had ample warning from my buddy who lives in Summersville. I was lead so we putted. Just don't trust them two...

And nice touch adding those road conditions notes! Sorry you had to ride all those terrible roads to find all that out. ;)

Marty,

Thank you for reminding me b/c even though I meant to post up, I had completely forgotten.

And yep, it was damn tough duty, but somebody had to do it! :derisive:

Ask Brent what he did, when it happened!!!!!

:turned:

One other bit of etiquette is about your conversation with the nice officer:

YES

Why officer, I have no idea of who was on those other bikes. It just looked like a nice group with all the saddle bags. I thought that they were a bunch of older folks out for a nice cruise when you pulled me over.

NOT !!!

Well, we're the FJR Eastern Owner's Group and because we enjoy burning up tires on twisty back roads we get together once a year. Most of us don't get a chance to "open 'em up" at home, if ya know what I mean! This year's group meet is at the Brier Inn in Lewisburg, want the phone number for that, officer? You oughta see all the pretty bikes. Sure, you can bring your Harley. Why, there's some really great people, like Andy Adams, and Bob Baker, and Charlie Chump, and... hey, do ya want their phone numbers, too?

The last time I went through Gauley Bridge......we had stopped for gas.......all pulled out heading North from the filling station.......GoldWind..FJR..Road King..Tahoe. The LEO stoped and ticketed the Road King. The Gold Wing went on down the road and waited, me on the FJR and the Tahoe stopped and the LEO never even talked to us. Go Figure....

Do you know why all scuba divers carry a knife?

It so when you see a shark you cut your buddy And swim for the boat.......

Is it true that triple digit performance award winners get to spend a night in the high roller suite.

Please don't pick me - - I gave on the way to the office.

Whats the chance of someone putting a red/ orange something poster board on the boardes of these towns as a nice reminder?

They dont have to say anything, an arrow or something like pointing to a garage sale. No one but us will know.

Don't leave home without your get out of jail card. A lot of cash will bail your *** out too!

Me? I always go the speeeeeed limit...never spent a night in the high roller suite! Well there was that one time, lucky it was payday and I had a lot of cash.

Now I never leave home without it, er I always go the speeeed limit. Yeah thats what I'll tell em.

West Virginia is like a box of chocolates...

I used to backpack a lot. West Virginia offers the best backpacking within hundreds of miles.

Once, a group of 4 of us were completely lost on our drive to the starting point of our trek. Seeing a sheriff on the side of the road talking to a couple of good old boys, we decided to stop and get directions. The looks we were getting from all three before exiting the vehicle prompted a quick discussion about whether we should just move on. We decided that leaving would be a mistake. Then, a lightning round of "not it" passed. They're always "lightning" rounds, I thought, as I was walking from our vehicle over to the 3 locals.

As I approached the sheriff's car, I noticed that the two standing next to his vehicle were unusually large, almost comic caricatures of the West Virginia mountain man. Indeed, for added effect, the larger of the two could only fasten one of the two shoulder straps of his overalls at a time and still have them sort of fit. The clearances were so tight, there was no way he could also fit a shirt under there. I have no idea how not wearing shoes further improved the fit, but I wasn't going to ask.

Having exceeded half the distance between the two vehicles by a step or two, I felt I had shown enough bravery to satisfy both groups. I called out, "does anyone know where I can find somepinsomepinsomepin road?"

Without missing a beat, the large one called back, "no, but I can tell you warr yew kin fin tha bes shan inna tricanny aria." [ed: (no, but I can tell you where you can find the best [moon]shine[sic] in the tri-county area.)]

I got back in the vehicle and, some 10 miles down the road, lost the next lightning round.
