After reading about Wayne and Annette's trouble I'm a little embarrassed to even mention my spill. Somewhere in Tennessee on the way back to So. Fla. a little careless use of the rear brake in what turned out to be a heavily gravelled lot and I high sided and got flung off the bike. Fortunately speed was low but the damage to the bike turned out to be fairly significant...

Right-side slider (Moko-and it really did a pretty good job) hit first followed by the right side Skyway mount and my Hella...not pretty but not the worst...

Skyway bracket is so strong that it bent the mirror mount on the front fairing subframe. Upper cowling broke along the back edge...

As a result all the panels on the right side have been pulled out of alignment.

Right bag took a bit of damage but nothing a little paint can't fix. Hmmmm, maybe now's the time for that Kenny Roberts yellow paint job.

Looks like about $335.00 for the cowling panel and the substructure (cheapbikeparts.com unless someone has another recommendation. I'm going to call University tomorrow and see what they say as well)...Plus a little paint for the side case. If anyone has a set of Skyway light brackets they would be willing to let go I'm interested. Since I have to remove the entire front end to get the support framework off I'm going to take advantage of the downtime to install the "all balls" headset bearings and Spiegler dual front brake line kit.

All in all it could have been a lot worse. Riding gear kept me from any damage (except to the ego) and the bike was not functionally hurt so I continued on my way a little wiser.

Best wishes to Wayne and Annette for a quick recovery.

Garauld did a great job of painting my side case and it was a lot worse off than yours.

I can prob spare some ego too if you need it

Sorry to hear of your mishap and very glad that it wasn't any worse (human body parts wise). Its kind of ironic that you made it through an entire weekend of gravel infused twisties at speed only to crash in a parking lot.....sometimes the elevator, sometimes the shaft.

That right side bag looks suspiciously like SPKLBUK's right side bag.

Glad you're no worse for wear. The bike can be fixed. Now it has personality!

Fencer definitely has plenty of ego to spare.

Not me, though. I got none.

Jeez John!! You can't be left alone without supervision?

Glad to hear you are OK though!

Sorry to here about the spill. The old bike is still looking pretty good - even after the fall.

I unfortunately had work conflicts come up that prevented me from attending EOM this year - so we'll hav to sync up again next time.

Take Care

Icedog, are you sure about the subframe being bent? That is going to be a major PIA to disassemble & reassemble.

Once upon a time, I had a similar break of the upper fairing. The new one didn't align correctly. I though that I had tweaked the subframe. As it is such a PIA to change out, I left it. Fast forward 4 years later. I do a drop on the opposite side & everything up there once again lines up correctly.

Seems that I must've done a shift of parts to the one side & actually had not tweaked the subframe. The drop realigned it.

That's an FJR pilot for you... first describing in great detail about damage to the bike, then adding, "oh yeah, me, I'm okay". Glad the only damage to you was ego.

As the gods would have it I just got all the plastic off the front...quite a challenge with the subframe still on the bike but manageable...and the damage is repairable.

Here's the left (undamaged) side. You can see the mirror mount properly lined up in the cowl opening.

Here's the undamaged side. You can see how the aux light bracket impacting the pavement shoved the mirror mount out of line.

Here's a decent shot of the damage (sorry for the flash-it was dark by the time I got everything off). That piece of angle iron is supposed to be 90 degrees. It has obviously been compressed from the impact. It's not too thick so I believe I can persuade it back into line. It looks like the only part I'll have to replace is the damaged cowl piece...about $90.

However...this mess is extra wiring added by several owners...me included. Now's the chance to make it pretty.

Glad youre ok.

Looks like you are up to the work ahead and I like your attitude about using this time to make the wiring right.

I'd say your glass is more than half full.
