It might be too late, but come March/April I'm up for a route scouting ride. I'll be on midnites by then and shouldn't have a problem leaving town early.

Here's a cool idea, Do a route scouting weekend in the spring. I'll work a deal with the venue we choose for some real cheap rooms. We get together, divide into groups and go scout and meet back to report our findings and tip some beers!!

4 inches on ground here at the farm yesterday morning. A foot in the high county. Snowshoe making snow like there is no tomorrow.

Well, there is less that 24 months to get this baby tie up and put to bed (just saying) so... why don't we start by making a short list of cities that we think might be a good venue and then do scouting in groups based at each city then decide how to narrow it down based on roads, facilities and locations, etc..? I don't see any point in route scouting to determine the city, I think that the city should determine the route scouting.

Here are some cities that have been mentioned and in no particular order:

Asheville, NC

Marysville, NC

Knoxville, TN

Chattanooga, TN

Roanoke, VA

Please no discussions yet - are there any other cities to be placed in this list?

*We develop a simple Matrix of the things we need to be looking for in each city so that there will be no side-barring to confuse the groups attention.

*Once we have a list then we should post only the positive things about each using the Matrix (those who post negative will be deleted).

*Then we post the negative about each city using the Matrix (those who post positive will be deleted).

*Lastly we agree on a point scale say 1 to 3 or 1 to 5. This represents our personal liking or disliking for each city; then we vote using the scale for each city. Each of us can vote using the scale for each city (didn't I say that already?)

*Now we take the top three (3) cities and we do the scouting, venue shopping and attraction fact finding (for the wonkers coming from the West Cost, etc, etc..).

So.... any other suggestions?? No WV cities? No GA Cities?

If no other city nominations by Nov. 7th then we'll start the Matrix - We all put out some ideas on what we need to be looking for in a venue. Once the Matrix is agreed upon then we apply it to each city (Positive then Negative) aspects. Then we vote using a scale. Top three cities then will be our targets to scout. It would be nice to have a couple more cities on the list so don't be afraid to make a recommendation, it's not Friday yet! :glare:
