Even McGyver isn't what he used to be, seems he can't figure out how to keep his car running. Quick, get this man some chewing gum and panty hose!

Oh wait, never mind, its an Audi.

Keeping an Audi running is easy. Just give your credit cards and 401k balances to the Audi mechanics.

We tried to find local shops to work on our 2002 A6. One refused. The other one did a piss-poor job. We had them replace the catalytic converters, and when he reinstalled the transmission he didn't properly tighten three of the mounting bolts and stripped another.

After two years of paying $6000 in miscellaneous repairs which weren't covered under the extended warranty (on a $11000 car) my wife had a bumper sticker made, which read:

Buy an Audi. Keep your mechanic employed!
It sure was a nice car to drive, though! :p

The answer is buy a new one.......get rid of it when the warranty runs out.

bu the way mine IS currently at the dealership....

Good advice. Take the hit to the wallet right up front, and never own one past 80k (when the emissions warranty runs out). Although that significantly raises the price of the vehicle, it more accurately reflects the costs of owning one.

When ours broke under warranty (steering pumps, AC compressor, various oil leaks, electrical gremlins, etc) it was still a PITA to have it towed to the dealership an hour away and be down to one car for 1-2 weeks at time. On the Audi forums there are two very true sayings:

"There is no such as an inexpensive Audi"
and

"Expect to pay at least $14k for an Audi, even if initial price to purchase is less"
But I will admit to drooling over the R8.

I did not know Audi's were that bad to keep running. Maybe you should just buy a Subaru? Unofficial car of Vermont.

We did ;-) The A4 was replaced by a 2005 OBXT5MT. The A6 was a second car for two years .. then replaced by a Honda (didn't really need to two AWD cars).
