The SO's got another potential job offer, this time in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Wondering if anyone from the forum has been to the place and whether it would be a decent place to live.

Looks like there are some nice feej roads in the area, but would that be the sole source of entertainment? I wouldn't mind it, but she might get a little bored.

I haven't lived in OR, but I visited a few times. I've been to Medford, Grant's Pass, Rogue River, and some towns along the southern coast. It's fairly rural, overall. If you like outdoor type of sports then you will most likely like it there. Coming from Baton Rouge, it will probably be a bit of a culture shock though. I don't think you get much snow, where Klamath Falls will get some.

The scenery around Oregon is beautiful!! It's not a terribly far ride from K.F. to Crater Lake (a must see!). There are a lot of nice motorcycling roads up there. Hopefully this will help you a little bit.

Klamath Falls is nothing like Grants Pass, medford or any of the western parts of the state. It is also not like the parts above and to the east which are high desert.

Instead K Falls is it's own uqique deal and IMO not very appealing. Hey, I love Oregon, I've lived there, I ride there every chance I get, but KFalls is very rarely a destination and when we have to go through to get elsewhere we typically don't spend much time. Cold windy, flat and ugly. (sorry, but it's the truth). You have TuleLake to the south so if you like horseradish or climates that it grows well in.

Good side? Well you do have great access to some cool areas.

Also, depending on where you're moving from ...be aware of the Orygun income and property tax. Much different for some folks -than say where I am.

And that's a very good side. The Concours Owners Group had their rally there -- oh, hell, I don't even remember when now, maybe 8 years or so ago. I remember there being some great riding around there. I didn't spend a whole lot of time in the town. At least the place seemed bike friendly. It was during July 4 weekend, the Connies all lined up for the local parade, and we won a trophy for best parade entry.

I have been to Klamath Falls several times, Nice town, has a great Gentlemans Club on the south end of town, great riding country, and from there to the coast, souther Oregon, Northern California, some of the most beautiful mountains you will ever find, too hot inland, head to the coast, free air conditioning!!

My K-Falls story: When I was hired in 1995, the boss offered me a spot in K-Falls or Newport. I told him I'd been to K-Falls once about three years earlier and I'd be content to never go back there again. (So I went to Newport and lived there for five years). Not my kind of place. I love rural and I enjoy every bit of the state for the most part, but K-Falls and Coos Bay...those are the two armpits.

I hope it's a good job for her if you go.

LOL LOL LOL ......I've said the same many times. Oregon has some wonderful things, is a great place, but KFalls and Coos Bay ...man O man.
Didn't know you were in Newport. Man has that placed changed over the last few decades. Once a sleepy but fun little beach town -transposed itself into a yuppie magnate. How about the contrast between newport and KFalls?? LOL.

K-Falls..

The place I *just* returned to the parking lot in time to see 4 meth heads 'targeting' my FJR with a ramp and ratty old truck. I won't post up with happened after that; let's just say a certain spiral got their attention.

Then again, like all towns, their must be good parts of town to live in. I'd say look at it, see for yourself. My experience is just one in a million and not a good sample..

Spent a week there, in a gorgeous resort but the rest of the place was a lot of nothing. Had to drive a long way to get to anything. On the other hand, seeing Crater Lake regularly would make up for a lot. That has to be one of this earth's top ten most beautiful places.

So far, we're considering potential jobs in small towns in Ohio and Oregon. Comparing tax rates, standard of living, etc, is always a good place to start. But it is even more important to get impressions about a place. Your comments are really helping with our decision, so thanks a million for all the input!

We'll probably visit K.F. to see for ourselves, but isn't looking like the better option at this point.

I've not been impressed with K-Falls either, but there is some excellent riding in the area (except around the lakes .. lots of bitty little bugs).

For example, you'll have access to 96, 299, 199, 3, and 36 in Northern California, That alone is a winner in my book. In Oregon, you've got 62, 199, and a few others (just try not to break down near *that compound* up in the woods).

You'll also have access to great skiing at Mt. Bachelor for a long weekend, Crater Lake and the surrounding mountains and forests for hiking / climbing, and even to the east, the Alvord desert on a clear night with a full moon in the hot spring, is a treat. Or go west to the coast: The southern Oregon coast is the best part of the west coast north of Petrolious. Not to mention you're avoiding the crowds in the more northern parts of the state.

Where in OH? The wife grew up in Wooster and in-laws are scattered from Cincinnati to Cleveland.

It has a conservative bent. Not sure if that is your cup of tea or not. Its got great outdoors activities (fishing, hiking, hunting). The weather can be cold in the winter and hot in the summer. You have a TON of great MC roads to the south in Cal and to the west in western Oregon. There is a great town to visit about 60 miles due west - Ashland Oregon, home of the Shakespeare Festival (world class plays). K-Falls is not a huge town and its mostly blue collar I believe. Crater Lake is really close.

I'd pick a town in the west over a mid-west town.

Good Luck.

Just rolled through Klamath Falls a couple of weeks ago after visiting Moab, Utah. It had been 10 years since I rode through previously and things have changed for the better. Would i move there? Would depend on the job, income etc. Think I would rather be on the west side of I-5 though! <_< I will say that Crater Lake is absolutely amazing and gorgeous!
