Gotta say, I love Oregon, and really like Southern Oregon, but K-Falls just isn't what makes Oregon a great state.

Bend, La Pine, Medford, Oregon Coast (except for Coos Bay apparently), Willamette Valley, Mt Hood, high desert, all are wonderful places that make Oregon unique.

RenoJohn also called it on the tax issue. We may not have the heaviest tax burden, but for the most part, workers and home owners are the only ones paying taxes in this state. The beautiful thing is, when I retire to another state, I'll get an instant 9% pay raise cuz that's our income tax rate that won't follow me to my new state (whatever that may be)!

So far, we're considering potential jobs in small towns in Ohio and Oregon. Comparing tax rates, standard of living, etc, is always a good place to start. But it is even more important to get impressions about a place. Your comments are really helping with our decision, so thanks a million for all the input!
We'll probably visit K.F. to see for ourselves, but isn't looking like the better option at this point.
At least we have no sales tax, which helps decrease the sting with 9% income tax and others.....

I have to say Klamath Falls never really impressed me, or anybody I know.

I've been through there more times than I can count. 30 minutes to the west you have really great mountain roads and three hours west you have the coast. South is flat and straight for about 90 minutes then it gets fun. West is flat desert for about 3 hours then you get the blue mountains and snake river. As a place to ride from the options are great. It's a midsized ag town so not a lot of culture events, but Bend and Redmond are becoming yuppieville east and every year get more full of themselves. There is not a lot of traffic so you could live 10 or 15 miles out of town and still have a decent commute.

While I somewhat agree about the comments in this thread about Klamath Falls, the fact is, it is INFINITELY preferable to the People's Republik of Ohio.

Too, it is not as bad as this thread would suggest.... cold in winter, can be pretty warm in summer, but the main thing to consider is that you are not *that* far from some of the finest motorcycle roads on the planet.

If your two choices are limited to Oregon or Ohio..... no question about it: do Klamath Falls.

The SO's got another potential job offer, this time in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Wondering if anyone from the forum has been to the place and whether it would be a decent place to live.
Looks like there are some nice feej roads in the area, but would that be the sole source of entertainment? I wouldn't mind it, but she might get a little bored.

First off - no offense to anyone on this board that may actually live in K-Falls.

I was born and raised in Oregon and have traveled all over the state. I've visited it several times while my daughter lived there. I can say without reservation that I would NEVER live there unless it was a last choice. Hot in summer, cold in winter and a great many of the "locals" appeared to be second generation trailer park crack heads. IMO, it's a good place to pass through on your way to anywhere else.

Good luck.
