3 (?) years ago, myself and a few others from the Midwest met up on NW Arkansas for a weekend of riding. Me and another guy from the same town I live in then ran up to Springfield to visit a friend, have dinner, etc.....we spent the night, and hit the road for home the next morning.
It was probably 80 when we hit the road at 9 am.....I was on my WIng, he and his wife were on their Ultra Classic. We left Springfield, and took all secondary roads to Pineville, Mo. When we hit the road, I was wearing a modular helmet, blue jeans, boots and a polo shirt. They of course were in jeans, sleeveless shirts and novelty helmets.
By noon or so, the temps had hit 95, and were continuing to climb. I ditched the polo shirt, for a LS shirt, which I doused in water before putting my mesh jacket over the top of that.......my two riding companions looked at me like I had suddenly sprouted a second head.....I tried to explain evaporative cooling to them, only to be met with cries of "That can't possibly work".....
2 hours later, we were sitting at a gas station, with her head sticking in the freezer......she is beet red.......dizzy.......how close to an E/R Trip, I don't know......but when we left the gas station an hour later, she was wearing a l/s shirt, which she kept dousing in water.
