Only experience is with a FZ6.....wicked little sport-touring bike with hard bags & a slightly higher windscreen....

I have owned three YZF600R's and think they are the best all around street bike anywhere. Comfortable and handle great. Great midrange power and a slick tranny to boot. Go for the YZF you will not be sorry.

My son used to ride a V-strom 650 and started to look for a sports bike. He looked at several bikes and ended uo getting the YZF600R, awesome bike. It gives you the sporting ride you are looking for but also a comfortable ride for longer trips.

Lots of info here: https://www.yzf600r.com/

good luck

Stayed away from the Bandit as I didn't want a vtwin.

maybe you meant you stayed away form the VStrom as you didn't want a Vtwin...

the Bandit are 4 cyls.... I went out and counted... although mine is a 1200 <G>

the Stroms are the most comfortable bikes I've ever sat on.... but I never got to ride one yet... can't reach the ground on the 1000...<G>

I have to agree with Frisco. The FZ would be the better choice in the long run.

The 600R is a great bike, and has been grossly overlooked for a long time, but the FZ is current technology and should be around for a while. For 2008, the 600R has been dropped from the lineup, so the support for it (accessories, AM stuff, etc) will slowly fade off.

There are a ton of very happy SV 650 riders out there, and from what I've seen, much more aftermarket support. The bandit is old school UJM, and the Katana has just never really been that good a bike. Not that bad, I mean they don't fail regularly as I recall, but just about every aspect of it will need improvement once the rider's skills develop.
