Experienced With Sheepskin?

I bought a full Australian sheepskin (in black unfortunately as I didn't have a choice of a natural or off-white skin) and I trimmed it slightly to fit.

It is very thick and dense and provides all of the advantages outlined by others above. In my previous experience I did not find that a "short pile" sheepskin pad added much comfort at all - just my experience.

Syl added some elastic straps to secure the sheepskin loosely front and rear. It comes on or off in 30 seconds with the key.

With this set-up we are comfortable on 1,000KM days (as many in a row as we feel like) using the stock FJR seats. I am blessed however with some natural cushioning of my own. YMMV...

Another vote for the Alaska Buttpad. I have mine over a Bill Mayer seat. The seat took care of the pain and the sheepskin helped with the butt burn in hot weather. Also consider beads. Look funky, but work for many.

I've got the Alaskan sheepskin on my FJR. I get still get some butt burn in the hot weather with it, but not quite as bad as without. I love the thing in cooler temps though. Tried the beads once. Felt like I was sitting on small rocks. Not comfy at all for me.

I just purchased one for my daughter for the Park City rides. I guess I am just lucky. My Russell doesn't require any extra comfort. I have been in the Russell for as long as 19 hours and have yet to get a sore bum.

is this what you are looking for?

Gunny on FJRMGM and earlier comments about using the $50 Alaska or other thick sheepskin pad to EXTEND time in the saddle an extra 100 miles or so. Without the pad, I'm comfortable maybe 150 miles, with the pad a full tank of gas. Also gives me more foot peg to seat distance for my long legs. Not a problem that FJRMGM has, though.
