Is the aircraft totaled?
I would bet so. The engine is after it ingested 10 cubic yards of soil. I'd bet the majority of the avionics package is wasted. I'm sure there's something bolted to the airframe they could still scavenge, hell, they used to steal good parts off of good airplanes when a squadrons inventory was low!

Edit: After seeing the additional footage. My guess is the F16 will be parted out.

My crews used to carry around a letter that in plain english stated "My Aircraft is more important than yours. If I need a part you have on your aircraft, you will give it to me now"

I never got to use the damn thing!

...don't know why he over-ran (brakes, excessive speed, hyd or other failure, etc) ...
Well, if YOU don't know.... :)

I'll bet you've been following the news on the French jet that crashed in the Atlantic, where they recovered the flight data recorders two years later.

The F16 not only totaled the engine, the airframe was beyond repair. We're pretty aware of what the Air Force is looking into and I'm sure the cause will become public, but it's their case.

As for Air France flight 447, it is a French investigation and there's a lot more public info here: https://www.bea.aero/en/enquetes/flight.af.447/flight.af.447.php

I missed the F-16 go in. I was working in the FAA hangar. As there weren't many of us there due to the furlough, we were a tad busy. Did see it with the nose on the trailer after they drug it out of the dirt.

Looked like he was coming in pretty hot. You know what Navy pilots say....."Flare to land, squat to pee".

He didn't even get his nose gear down until most of the runway was used up.
As others have said, F-15s and F-16s always 'areo brake', that's normal.

Taxpayers, don't get too upset. There are probably over a hundred late model F-16s sitting in the boneyard at Davis-Monthan in Arizona. They can just pull one of those out of storage to replace this one.

With respect to drag chutes, the SR-71, the Space Shuttle and the F-117 all used them.
