I want to start gathering some thoughts on our (now) annual Fall Colors /slash/ Burger Challenge Weekend.

Key; EBC= Ellicotteville Brewing Co.

Chime in on your thoughts!

Here's mine (so fer)

--Weekend of Oct 15th (why? prior weekend is OctoberFest in Ellicottville.... need to avoid this zoo!, and any later gets iffy weather wise)

--Saturday's Shenanigans (10/15/16)... I've always wanted to stay right in downtown Ellicotteville, walk to the EBC, no worries about taxi's or DWI's...... Can be accomplished!, but.... pricey. The Wingate is less than 2 blocks ACROSS THE OUTSIDE EATING DECK of the EBC. Yep, less than 200ft! So, It's got all the amenities including pools, jacuzzi's etc, the bad news here is that I have it priced out at 229/nite. We only need one night true, but kinda pricey (but no need for travels to another town or taxi's).

I also check on Wyndham rewards site. So the good news here is that they are not getting any more (points wise) for this hotel than a flea bag one. So, 15,000 measly points gets you in!

Okay, now we should consider. But who has Wyndham points? I do yes, but then again, I have points for all of them, convenience is more of concern I think here and who can land this hotel (with or without points).

Last year we stayed in Olean (NY). Way cheaper yes, but it was a 25 mile ride from EBC to there, so our (would be) happy hour down to kiddie-pool style. We have some really nice roads to dwindle our way down to Denny's BBP.

--Sunday 10/16/16: KSU in parking lot of Wingate Hotel (Ellicotteville) at 9AM!

[Our group will ride down together, about 2 hrs travel time, a couple of Kodak stops in there, fun roads, zero slab of course!]

--Sunday 10/16/16 EATS! @ 12-Noon Denny's Beer Barrel Pub, Clearfield PA

Let's start the planning! You can meet in the hotel parking lot at 9AM if you are not going to be a transient!

.............. And!, who's in for the challenge this year?

Rick? Lil Jon? Go-Jo? we need some appetites!

Oh bummer. I was hoping to hit ya up for the Sunday RTE (for pure entertainment purposes), but I will be in Florida attending the AIM show.

Have a good one guys and gals!!

And I can attest to the entertainment that was had at Denny's BBP- it was fun watching an attempt and a completion of the burger challenge!!

Good luck to those who take the challenge....

I've stayed at that hotel already...nice place, and very convenient to the EBC. I'd love to make it to this RTE...We'll see.

I went to the OctoberFest back in the mid eighties with a friend of mine from Pittsburgh that was a ski instructor at Holiday Valley. Some food stand had the best beer battered mushrooms I've ever had....you just remember that ****

I am out, right now the back couldn't take the 9+ hour ride.

I'm likely out also.

That's Bridge Day weekend.

If that trip's a bust I'll see you at Denny's.

I'm very likely in for this one, but probably without the hotel stay.

And I'm sure I can bring a couple tag-alongs with me.

Mona and I will likely ride up to Denny's and meet you guys. May bring her son along to try a challenge burger. How big was that one from last year KJ?

Let me answer that one.

It's a 2 pound patty.

Plus 6 slices (I think) of cheese, an onion, a tomato, lots of lettuce, ketchup, mustard, relish, hot peppers, mayo, and a bun you could land a helicopter on. You are allowed to omit 1 item.

I skipped the tomatoes.

And still failed.

I'm saddened by the one's who can't attend

but super-happy for the one's who can.... as this is a really good time whether you take the challenge or just chose to be an observer (the menu other than challenges is big and diverse enough to satisfy even Ms. Healthy (Debbie).

I won't be doing the challenge this year as I have (now) succeeded in taking down the pub challenge. I know there is other (BIGGER) challenges to be had here, but TBH, that was my EXTREME limit! So... I failed 3 years ago (wasn't mentally and stomach prepared like you have to be) but as you guys know... just barely made it last year in under an hour.

So we need new contestants! I'd like to get some more of us guys up on the wall of shame (and it's actually an engraved metal name tag plaque!)

If you guys forgot last years RTE here (I guess it was gross to some lol)

The Pub Challenge (smallest of their challenges!) is $20 but "if" you can take it down within 1hr, it's half priced ($10) and you land a very nice TShirt and frame-able certificate, and of course your name engraved on the wall

My pre suggestions (on last years win).

-Salad night before, oatmeal (only) 1st thing in AM. Yep, natural colon cleansers suggested!
wink.png

-At table, only order Ice water and do not drink any until you need to clear your pallet w burger going down.

-Omit one condiment of the 12 required on it. I chose to remove the hot peppers. And I like HP's trust me, it was a (later) digestion choice for me.

-Do not separate the burger and eat parts on their own. This wears you down quickly, enjoy it the way you normally would (all together!)

Me failing at this challenge a few years back helped me conquer it this past year. If you take it as a joke, have a beer etc prior, you will most likely go down "a loser" lol. (Lil Jon gracefully went down a loser, and he even 'purchased" a loser Tshirt lol).

Contestants make the show, being bikers who will most likely take over a large table there... we need some participants! It's a blast! (and later a blast too!)

KJ,

That's why we want to bring Mona's son. I think the boy has a tape worm! He's already eaten 100 hot wings in one sitting so 2 lbs. may not be a big deal for him.

Yeah. It was the Guinness I had prior to seeing my burger that made me into a loser. I'll accept that.

And HELL NO I will not be looking for redemption. There were a lot of tasty looking burgers on that menu, and I'd like to enjoy one of those this time around.

Sweet! I look forward to him chomping this down like it was a puny McD's 1/4LB'er! There's also records/awards for fastest time consumed also! :)

LMAO! and, this was not really in direct relationship to your attempt, but I did sorta use it as an outline example didn't I? ;)

Sorry bro, you no loser! You have Mel and that took a second go around, so I'm thinking this challenge will have your redemption and to clear up any confusion going forward! haaaa! You gotta do it buddy!

---------------------------------------

So I just booked my room in Ellicotteville. I went for the King bedroom Suite. It has a living room with a pull out bed. If anyone wants to take this pull-out sofa bed for like $50, I'm game. My bedroom is separated by a wall and door, so if you snore, I'll hopefully never know! Hit me up for the share....

It's on the calendar!! :) My wife is gone that weekend or I would have brought her to this. Also the boys have football games on that Saturday so I'm out for the overnight but I will try to make it to Clearfield PA to observe the carnage event. It might be in a cage so both the boys can come.

I read a great little book years ago full of memorable advice. Such as:

o Never walk on ice with your hands in your pockets.

o Never grab at a falling knife.

o Never eat anything bigger than your head.

Good advice, like I said. So if I make this, I'm leaving off TWO ingredients (the patty and the roll).

Pretty sure that in my 37 years, I've broken all 3 of those rules.

And paid.

And what's left is a salad!
lmao, Salad! how true, and still a pretty good one at that!

Great strategy btw Mike, but unfortunately I don't think they'd consider either of those as "condiments".

Dang. We've already got plans for this weekend otherwise we'd prolly join in the festivities.
Andy- You would of been an observer most likely; as you would want to sample some of the tap choices. With that being said, you'd be having the most fun! (at the participants expense of course!).

We'll do it again next year, I'll try to get the plans out earlier (aka; do a better job next time!)

See you and Sooze in Wytheville!
