First owner installed these, and I have no idea where they came from. They mount as normal frame sliders, and you can fold them out to be foot boards. As far as operation goes: they don't come close to interfering with turns, but they don't provide quite enough room for me to stretch my legs. They DO, however, move my legs into a position to redirect airflow straight to my crotch.

Any ideas? I'm not sure if I'll keep them or not.

Looks like the PO did his own fabrication.

Look like nice work, but they appear to be fabricated from metal, so if mounted as frame sliders could potentially transmit damaging force to the frame in the event of a low/no speed drop, whereas non-metallic sliders are designed to be somewhat sacrificial, in order to absorb impact to a degree.

I believe the various highway pegs offered for the FJR are mounted at different location than are sliders, but as a fellow forumite recently posted, they can cause damage during a low/no speed drop

 
The mounting peg is definitely aluminum, though I've no idea how thick. I haven't taken them all the way off.

I've been reading about the dangers of frame sliders, both with damaging the frame in a low speed and causing a tumble if it gets caught during a high speed. I'm not a fan of the engine cage look like the canyon cages, but I'd like to think of myself as practical. I'm very back and forth on these and other options.

OP,

I would imagine it was the previous owner or at least a machinist friend of the owner. As stated most likely a one off since no one has ever seen anything like them. Lots of creative folks around for sure. I would be a little leery in the event of a high speed slide. I don't believe it would end well.

Having worked the parts department of a Harley shop for years I can tell you the footboards themselves were originally intended for use on a Harley. I believe Drag Specialties used to offer them in their catalog a few years back. Can't remember the manufacturers name right now. They were intended for use as a foot peg with built in heel rest and were often bought by folks with forward controls as a more stable place for their feet. If I can come up with the manufacturers name I'll post it.

Now I have know where the boards came from, and I'm pretty sure the pegs are just cnc machined aluminum. That's probably all of the answer I'm going to get!

It's neat to find custom one-off pieces, even if they include manufactured parts. My last bike, a Suzuki Savage, came with a very interesting tailpiece attached to the factory back rest. Properly welded, chromed, and reupholstered!

I have set of rubber pegs mounted in a standard set of sliders. This looks like the same setup but with a fancy running board attached. There was a guy, Leo, that used to be on the forum that made those. I'm not sure if the picture links are still good (my work network blocks many photo sharing sites), but this thread shows them:

I like them because they're inexpensive, you won't drag them and they offer variety in leg positioning for long rides. If I put my heels on them, my legs aren't stretched out but they are in a different position and I can rest my elbows on my knees and ride that way for awhile. And as mentioned, when I rest my calves on them with my legs sticking straight out there's a nice cooling airflow up to the boys on those hot days.

Used my phone to check the link above and can confirm the pictures are still there. Looks like that guy added extenders from the slider to the peg. My setup has that same black rubber peg mounted directly off the end of the slider. Leo supplied that setup with Harley Davidson pegs BTW - LOL :) I proceeded to immediately take a razor blade to the raised Harley Davidson wording on the pegs, lest my FJR suddenly lose half it's horsepower and start leaking oil. ;) Of course my FJR is a ******* child anyway with Honda ST1300 heated grips and an automotive cruise control installed (I'm only missing the car tire on the back now).

I agree! In that thread, Jevers describes the pegs as having two set screws, which mine have as well. It looks like Leo made a pair in aluminum instead of composite or whatever the others were. I'll continue searching threads to see how much more information I can find.

I think I'll wind up swapping these out for SW-motech sliders. The boards are an interesting feature, but I want something designed to protect the bike.

Leo didn't make the slider, only the aluminum insert that went inside the slider opening and allowed a peg to be attached. There used to be another vendor on this forum (skyway) that made aluminum sliders and there might have been a source on ebay also. Don't bother looking for Skyway because he screwed some people on the forum and is no longer around.

 
Yep, I had those too. Set screws through the nylon slider into the clevis/peg holder. Strong enough to hold the pegs but would have broken away in a get off.

I now have some nice pegs mounted on canyon cages.
