Of those of you that have used Warchild's fastener free install for a Fenda Extenda, can you give me some feedback on how well this type of install is working for you??? Is the glue holding....etc??

I'm getting ready to add one of these to my bike and want to do the fastener free install as long as it is holding up.

To fasten or not to fasten is the question????

Thanks for your input.

There is almost 75,000 very high-speed miles on that same fender now... and it's solid as a rock for me.

However, I've heard of a couple folks who apparently failed to apply enough glue have their's fall off. But if it's applied correctly, it appears to work just fine. YMMV, etc.

+1 on fastener free method

Not even close to the above mileage (wow) but it is rock solid after ~1000 miles.

Looks much better than screws IMHO

I took the fender off when I was putting on some new tires and let it cure for about 2-3 days

I couldn't find the stuff (glue) used in the web page write-up, could be a CA environmental issue

I used Loctite plastic epoxy that I picked up at Lowes for about $4

Package says:

-sets in 5-8 min

-usable strength 8 hrs

-full cure 24 hrs

Yep, hardware not need be included. Prep it right, glue both surfaces and clamp it down. 25K and still holding.

I thought I did it right - One day I noticed it was GONE! I vote to fasten it. :)
Did you use clamps on it overnight?

The first time I didn't use any clamps and it stayed on for about 10k, then became loose so I ripped it off. This time I sanded both surfaces then used 3 clamps. It ain't goin' anywhere now. :p

I'm one of those that lost it after about 15,000 miles. I did clamp overnight, used MEK based blue, but didn't sand it as thoroughly as I probably should have. After it ripped off I could see where the better adhesion spots were.

This time around I sanded it better, used glue, but also put 4 fasteners on as I also had a crack in the fender. It's much happier now.

I thought I followed Warchild's instructions correctly but mine fell off after about 30000 miles. The replacement is held on by fastners (i.e., screws).

Looks like the fasteners are fo sho the way to go if you don't want to take any chances of it falling off but the fastenerless way looks better. Well, I'm still thinking of the way I want to go. Don't want to damage my fender or radiator with the extenda coming off.....I don't really like the way the fasterners look either....decisions, decisions, decisions.

Thanks for your input and keep it coming. :D

My first attempt was insufficiently prepped and too sparsely glued. Came off after only about 1000 miles. I did a better job of prepping the surfaces the second time, and didn't shortchange the glue. Been on much more solidly for 12K+ miles since.

mine has been on for 27,500 miles.

be sure to clean the surface of the extenda with alcohol to get all the "release agent" off it and sand it and the inside of the fender so the glue has something other than a slick surface to grab onto.

Installed mine with the proper adhesive, did the usual prep work, clamped, 24 hr. cure time, etc. etc. Held great until I took out a racoon which also cracked the triangular piece under the radiator. Replaced it, now held on with 6mm stainless bolts/acorn nuts.

I'm not sure a fenda extenda is any match for a racoon no matter how it is installed. You're probably more happy you didn't hit the pavement.

Are you guys that are gluing removing the tape that comes on the Extenda? I noticed Warchild left it on in his how-to, but I wondered if a full glue bond would be better. I plan on installing this tonight on my '05.

I went with the glued-on version as per WC's instructions, even bought the glue at a Do It Best hardware store. I have over 9000 miles since the install without a problem.

As already mentioned several times, prep BOTH surfaces thoroughly and don't spare the glue. When gluing PVC pipe it is suggested to turn the connection about 1/8th turn to get the melted plastic to fill in the gaps. I did the same by mating the extenda about 1/4 inch low and then slid it into place.

The fit isn't perfect so make sure it is clamped securely before things start to set up so that it doesn't "break loose".
