Haven't been on the forum in quite a while but feeling a little nostalgic tonight and thought I'd put up a post. Well after 28 years of faithful service, I finally sold my 1981 Yamaha 750 Seca. It was a great bike, I never put a dime into it other than the normal maintainence stuff. Original clutch, seals, electrical... Still looked and ran great although the mufflers were on the list of things to replace.

I've had my FJR since spring 2007 and the Seca just didn't get ridden too much after that. I gave it to my son but he wanted something newer so this fall my neighbor had a yard sale, I put my nicely shined Seca in my front yard with a For Sale sign on it, and sure enough someone from the yard sale wandered over and the rest is history. Seems like a nice dude who will take care of it and appreciate it for what it is.

Good bye ol' friend... sniff sniff

I can relate, although my 3rd Concours since 1987 is still parked in the garage next to the 08 FJR. Wife does not see the logic.

I still have my '81 KZ1000 (original owner) even though I never ride it much (500 miles/summer). I can't sell it 'cause I'm still pissed I ever sold my '78 KZ1000! My brother still has his '79 KZ1000 ..... and if you count my Connie (ZG1000) we've had 4 Kawy 1000's! Life has been good (but the FJR IS better) so lets all say thanks to the great bikes we've lost.

Don't ever get rid of it. I also had a 1981 KAW CSR 1000. chalk it up as another one gone.

I bought a cbr929 in June 2001 and it just turned 31,000 miles on the last ride. The new models sure look nice but I love the looks of the 929 and I have the red, white & black one (best color combo). ;) It's about time to flush the brake fluids again and I guess I should have the valves checked too.

Didn't Willie Nelson sing that song "To All the Bikes I've Loved Before"?

I still keep my Harley around even though I seldom ride it. It was my first wife divorce Harley. I don't remember whether it caused the divorce or the divorce caused me to go and get it to maintain my sanity, but it was mixed up in there somewhere.

Small world, I still have my '82 Seca in the garage. Also, have 2007 FJR. Offered it to my son but there she sits covered with and old sheet. :(

Good Bye, 1981 Yamaha 750 Seca :cray:
Hello, 2006 Yamaha FJR 1300 :yahoo:
For sure! The FJ truely softens the blow and is so much more machine. Just was a good run with the old one. Looks like a lot of others have had the same soul searching.

Come onnn Spring!!!

I sure miss my '84 FJ1100. Sold it in 1999, so I had it for 14 years. I abused the shit out of it. Never had a problem with it and it still ran like hell the day I sold it.

Still trying to figure out why I'm so cautious on the FJR because I rode the FJ1100 like a hooligan.

Guess I've just become a boring old fart. That, or I'm going senile.

All of you just convinced me to keep my '97 Bandit that I have 60,000 miles on. Just needs a carb overhaul but damn I don't ride it much with the FJR in the shed as well.... but I'm going to keep it! Just not worth selling for $1500. And no bike compares to the sound of it with pod filters and a 14" Holeshot can.

I had a 1982 Maxum 650 I bought new. I wish I could fine another one. Lots of fun

I still have my 86 FJ1200 and DO ride it like a hooligan! Not so much on the FJR...

Check out the bike on the bottom of the list below, and console yourself with the fact that I got rid of that with only 650 miles on the odometer, a night of hard partying, and a collision with a telephone box, at about 80 mph. Sometimes lessons come hard when you are young, and I have never had one drop of alcohol while riding since. That was, at the time, the fastest stock 750 being built, and those 650 miles were fun. Well, the last 100 yards sucked big time, but the rest was great! I envy you, for your 28 years!

Congrats, STF, on the EXACT same move that I made. Although I truly love the 2008 FJR, I'd still have the Seca if she had continued to run right, and I still, after 2 years, miss her. She fit me perfectly, and it still gave me a kick in the butt when she came onto the power curve at about 3K rpms, but she had NOTHING like acceleration of the FJR, which I love! Still, after 2 yrs., and a "tilt over", I don't know that I'll ever feel as confident and secure on the FJR as I did on the Seca. . .

I lusted after that '81 Seca when it came out! Still remember standing in a parking lot, staring at one, thinking: This is the future!

Great bike - I know you're sad to see it go, but nice to know it's going to someone else who will care about it.

I hold onto vehicles beyond their prime and also become nostalgic about their great remembered qualities. But for my '81 Yam XS 650, which I bought well used for $700 and traded to the dealer for same price to my new FJR, I had little remorse. Leaking seals, lack of parts, horrid vibration, poor riding protection. Corrosion, electrical wiring, switches, gauges and all the plastic going kaput to sun and old age.

Damn, that thing was bomb proof for overall reliability, though. I'm sure it lives on as a chopper somewhere. B)
