Boy I am not happy with the postal service, had a radar detector and Mercedes parts shipped from my daughter in Vegas to Germany; 600bones worth of stuff...the post office has no record or trace of it...sent Priority mail on Dec. 11, 2009. If I punch in tracking number it says package was delivered in Loraine, Ohio in October,,, go figure. Learned from USPS that they recycle their tracking numbers :angry: :angry: :angry:

Feel better now, always good to tell even if nobody listens

 
I sent some original, important documents to my insurance company via the USPS. The documents were so imortant that I requested a Return Signature. The documents never arrived.

I asked the local USPS to track the package. The trail went to the correct city and, then, the trail went cold. Documents were lost and have stayed that way...they must have been absorbed into the ether.

Abt 6 weeks ago, I sent another set of documents to a company in Florida via Priority Mail, guaranteeing 2-3 business day delivery and I requested a delivery receipt. The documents took 5 days to deliver...from Tennessee to Florida.

I now use any other means to send important things and avoid the USPS where possible.

 
I bought a GPS from a guy in one of the eastern states a couple of years ago. He sent it Priority USPS. I started looking for it a week later. Postal employees didn't have a clue or a way to get a clue as to where it was. I was lucky. A couple of weeks later it finally showed up...

Like checking baggage at airports, I don't send anything by USPS that I can't afford to lose...

We had some documents sent from Austria, took six weeks and arrived all beaten up. Won't use the post office again for sending stuff overseas...bastiches...

 
and the USPS wonders why they are going out of business. I don't trust them to send anything of importance anymore. I'll pay the extra couple dollars for UPS or Fed-Ex. At least their tracking system actually does something, the USPS tracking system is a joke.

Two years ago I had a check come back in the envelope saying postage required. The stamp was already on the bill and postmarked by the USPS. I took it in, they weighed it and said basically it was their error but they wouldn't take care of the late fees because the bill was now 5 days late(mailed 15 days before the payment date). That same year I mailed a payment for our association(which is all of 15 miles from my house). It was lost in the mail and showed up 7 weeks later.

Too bad the USPS isn't as efficient as the IRS.

 
OK as a retired gov't employee (granted military, but still) and the son of a retired postal rural carrier. I can say the USPS isn't what it was 15 yrs ago. I can remember when I was akid riding with my Dad on his route and helping deliver mail on snow days from school. He'd hand me the mail for a stop and I'd wade thru the snow to put it in the box. He even used to have stamps for people to buy, if they left money and a note in the mail box. Rural carriers used to be a mini post office on wheels that came to your door. No more, that level of service is way long gone.

I will say if you send something you do not want to lose, you need to send it registered mail. When I was active duty if we needed to send classified material without a courier, we could send up to secret classified only by registered mail. Costs you and I a lot more because they have it under lock and key, with a signature for every person that handles that piece of mail from the time you give to the clerk at your post office until the carrier delivers it. Kind of like a chain of custody that the police use for evidence.

If you don't want to go for that expense, there is always insurance which is relatively cheap to purchase for any parcel, package, or letter.

I have a friend of mine on Pashnit that says he has figured out why a stamp cost 49 cents now. 9 cents for delivery and 40 cents for storage! LOL!

Just when the seething had resided, the memory has been pulled back to the forefront.

Here at my business I had some Frame sliders sent from -T-Rex Racing out of Dallas.

They chose to use the usps; Used tracking to follow and usps said it was delivered on a Thursday.

No package--no where--noone seen it.

Used security video to see who the postal worker gave it to...No one, did not even bring it in the building nor took it out of the truck.

Took video still shots of postal worker getting out of truck; walking in building; delivering envelopes-- no package; no delivery inside...showed it to the station mgr.

He promised some action as I had image proof the PW did not scan package at the delivery site. She did not know where she took the package. Uhh4 months ---still no action.

I called customer service (An extreme joke...IMO) They were not interested and may as well said..."piss off", because they were not interested in my $90.00 loss.

T-rex would not budge on re-shipping period; discount or otherwise. IMHO they should have stepped up and took responsibility since they shipped a package USPS and did not have any insurance on it. (Never again from them)

This is when I search on net and discover they could loose your kid and not be responsible. They are not held accountable by no means(unless one of them goes on a rampage). I do not dislike postal workers; and have tremendous respect for those that do their work diligently; however any system that is not held accountable is flawed...at the least.

Out of soap now.....

 
Yep, that just confirms it, customer service people that have been on the phone so far twice don't give a &^%$*&%ck, basically said we'll start a search...and hung up the phone. I have a case number but that number is doing me no good since there is no link for case numbers on the USPS website.

The CS is basically non existent.

That same year I mailed a payment for our association(which is all of 15 miles from my house). It was lost in the mail and showed up 7 weeks later.
I mailed a HOA payment about the same distance, and it came back "postage due" with a "forever" stamp on it. I remailed it with Fed-Ex and have never used those slackers again.

Every time I see newspaper articles on how much of a deficit the USPS is running, I just smile. Maybe if they stopped the nearly-free service for all the junk crap... OTOH, I've noticed a huge decline in junk mail recently.

 
When mailing items overseas, I'm much better off just mailing first class international. The item arrives 5-7 business days later in good shape. If you want to add 2-4 weeks of waiting with the possibility of never arriving, add some customs forms. Sometimes the item sits at the destination postal office without even a notification being set to the customer! They have to go to their local post office and ask if something has arrived for them.

I wish that this wasn't the case.

 
I priority mailed a glass item I sold on eBay some years ago and it

came back refused, when the carrier gave me the box it was so badly

mangled I had to laugh, it was badly smashed and there were even

tire marks on the box.

It was a funny sight.

So I asked him whom do I contact to get my money? He said: "Nobody

says "Whom" anymore {pause for laugh}, and then he said that I'd have

to go to the post office and file a claim. Ok, I said.

So I see the claims clerk and she says, "Did you insure it?"

I said: "No, but you ran over it with a truck."

She said: "If you didn't insure it we don't cover it."

I said: "But you ran over it with a truck, your truck."

She said: "I'm sorry but if it's not insured I can't help you."

I said: "But your truck, it RAN OVER MY BOX - IN YOUR

POSSESSION, you, your truck, my box, you keep safe, deliver, safely."

She said: "The thing is, if it's not insured.." so, I broke in

I said: "Yeah, but the insurance is for if I pack it crappily and

it breaks then you.." she breaks in.

She said: "No if you pack it poorly then we don't pay, even if

you have insurance."

I said: "So let me get this straight, you only pay insurance claims

when you break my stuff and I have already paid you to pay me if you break it?"

She said: "Correct."

I'm pretty sure I fainted at that point as my brain had reached maximum capacity

of crap intake.

Moral: If it has any value at all, always insure it, or use FedEx - UPS - ABX - DHL , or carrier pigeon.

I had a set of replacement soles shipped to me from NY priority mail with delivery confirmation. After one week I checked the tracking number and it was delivered to a S. Jones. I have no idea who S. Jones is. I contacted the manager of the apartments where I live in and there are no tenants with Jones as a last name.

I start the ball rolling with the USPS and learned one of my neighbors signed for it. This makes no sense the mail boxes at my complex have large drop boxes. Large parcels are put in the drop box and a key is put in my mail box. USPS told me without a doubt it was signed for by a neighbor. Okay, which one and what apartment number? In seven years not once has a package been given to a neighbor? They had no clue. I requested to talk with the carrier when he came in, could he please call me. I never got the call. In fact, they stopped returning my calls completely. And when I showed up there I was told they would track it.

Three weeks later I got a call from the person I talk to weeks ago. My box was found in a Florida Post Office and I would have it the next day. So I asked, how did S. Jones sign for it in Nevada and it show up in a Post Office in Florida? She explained she did not have the details, but I would have my box the next day.

I'll add my ***** on the Post Office too. I snagged a set of tuning blocks from here on the forum a few weeks back. I messaged the seller a few days ago that they hadn't arrived and he replied that he'd shipped them less than 12 hours after I paid for them. Good old post office has had them for going on 3 weeks and no sign of them yet so looks like I'll be in the market for another set of tuning blocks. Like noted above, only ship with a reputable carrier that can actually track a package. A few cents or dollars saved in shipping aint' worth a damn if the item doesn't ever arrive! :angrysmiley:

Just for the record, package showed up miraculously at German custom and was released a few days ago...don't know what detours the package had to endure for 7 weeks

Made my day for sure :yahoo:
