This will be my first trip on my new o5 fjr cant wait to leave, departing 9-9-05 7:00am. My thought for my route (leaving from woodland ca.) was to head up the coast to Fort Bragg than all the way on the coast through Oregon into Washington to Mt. St. Helens than north. this is where I get lost I want to maybe ride the boarder roads between Canada and the U.S.? I want to eventually go to Mt. Rushmore and ride the blackhills of the Dakota's and use that as my starting point for returning to calif, any ideas or thoughts ? Also do I need to get a pass port for canada to enter and to re-enter the U.S ?

If you see a rider with a helmet that is maroon in color that would be me. Need to buy another to helmet different colour to help with all the blue on the bike

will be riding solo

i crossed the border both ways two weeks ago with a wa. drivers license and there were no problems. remember the canadians don't like guns so if you are packing stay in the states. hwy 20 is a great road across wash and on into idaho and montana and points east.

You need to have proof of Citizenship to get back into the US. I would suggest you have a passport or carry your birth certificate. The US is now anal about this since 9/11. It used to be I would go back and forth with my word and a license. This just dosen't work any more. The Canadians aren't the ones who make a big deal about it but US Customs doesn't mess around. Many Post Offices now provide Passport services. You can get one in one day but it is pricey.

You might get lucky and not need it once but once you try and are rejected you are toast because the whole system is on a computer network.

What! When all the cool riders are doing a Yosemite group ride. Go ahead, diss us. We'll probably get over it before you will. ;)

But really, have a safe trip. We'll hook up eventually.

Get a passport! ;)

Even though you may be able to get across on a DL, a passport will make your life a lot easier at the border. I work with TSA (Transportation Security Administration) everyday and it is just easier to have a current passport. :agent:

Kinda late to get a passport in time, now. Unless you pay the HUGE bucks to have it expressed. Go to the county clerks office, or whatever, and get a REAL birth certificate. Carry it with you. You might be asked, you might not. That and a DL will get you by.

Afterwards, though, I'd highly recommend getting that passport. If you want to go anywhere, you're going to need it. In two years, I know that flying into Canada and elsewhere will require a passport. I think that's after then end of '07? Perhaps Overfly can help us out on those details.

Anyway, my passport, which I renewed 2 months ago, cost me $135 plus photo plus postage, and it took 5+ weeks to get here using the standard method.

Years ago, I went to Chicago to visit my brother. He asked if I wanted to take a trip. I said sure. We went to the fed office downtown, and I got a passport THE SAME DAY. Then we left the next day on a cruise. That was fun. I was shocked that I could get one same day. Those days are gone, I think. Sad.

WR, have a great trip, and let us know how it went!

I agree with everything FJRocket said. Good post!

I will check on the upcoming requirement for passport required travel and report back here on a new thread.

Have a great trip and let us know how it went! :agent:
