As much as I would like to get on my soap box and rant about how badley Fred was treated, I mean, after all he is a smart guy that loves to tinker and share what he learns, and why was it he was treated so badley....but I won't go there.
I have my own variation of Fred's wire mod in that instead of using a piece of wire in the pulley groove to increase the diameter I used a piece of an O-ring. It was hard for me to get the wire in there, (anything that takes more than a minute and I'm out of patience). I used an o-ring that was .115 dia. and about 2 inches round. Cut the end on an angle to make a ramp for the throttle cable, locked the throttle wide open, (works best with the engine off), stuffed the oring in the groove tight against the cable and pressed it in the rest of the exposed groove with a screwdriver and then cut off the excess. This was very quick and easy and the oring is a squish fit so it can't come out. At least it hasn't for the last 8,500 miles. Of course you now need to readjust the throttle cable slack as it will be too tight.
Thanks S76. And where might one go to get such an O-ring? Is that something you can walk into an auto parts store and ask for? Thanks in advance for your reply.

1 hour? :dribble: I spent one day doing the Barbarian Mod, the Spring mod and installing Grip Puppies. I admit most of the time was taking the seat and side panels off.. Well, OK, I took off one too many side panels, like the whole left side off, but I didn't really understand which two "trim" pieces they were talking about.. That is until I found the computer and realized it was necessary to remove the whole left side! AND I only had two "fasteners" left over. (OK four if you count the two little plastic do whickies which disappeared.

The results of my toil.... I don't think the Barbarian mod (+7) had made any difference at all.

The grip puppies help a lot in relieving numb hands and aching wrists. Also helps with herky-jerky throttle. Larger circumference grips give slightly more "precise" control when applying throttle. Still a ways to go there though.

The throttle spring mod has been the most successful for me. I can now at least go 20 minutes without my wrist/hand killing me.

Next up, cheap throttle lock until I can install a "real" cruise control.. Then... Maybe the fred shim (awful tight in there" a PCIII, who knows. All I know is I like this bike too much to give up on her.

When I got my '05 (used) last year, my right hand & wrist would go numb after 10-15 minutes, or about double that if I wore my thicker padded gloves.

I did the standard Throttle Body Sync (TBS), which helped noticeably but didn't cure the problem. Next, I installed heavy bar ends, (they look great but no real vibe help), followed by some thick gel grips, which helped a little more, and removal of the center throttle spring (big help overall, but didn't help vibes). By that time, I could go 45-60 minutes with no hand problems. Then I installed the Audiovox Cruise Control, which is an excellent farkle but doesn't directly help reduce vibes, of course.

After about 9 months, I decided to do the Unathorized TBS merged with the KISS TBS, and now it's SWEET! I can't even tell when I've crossed the 4k RPM boundary anymore, it's that smooth. I probably could have done the Unauth+KISS TBS first and skipped everything else, but I'm happy now and that's what matters. Hang in there, you'll be glad you did.
