Ok. Well I am a new member and just was trying to think what questions I would hope to get answered. I am a cruiser guy but the Sport Tourers have recently caught my eye. Not sure if I will be trading in my cruiser for one or not, but I did learn one thing...ASK QUESTIONS first.

I am a big guy. about 6'2" 285lbs. ARE there any big guys riding the FJR? If so, could you please let me know how comfy they are both short and long trips. are there ways to make it more accomodating. Do any of the current FJR owners also ride Cruisers (or did ride cruisers?)

Compare/Contrast - FJR/Sport Tourer to a Cruiser(Honda VTX 1800)

Thanks, Jim

I'm sure you'll get quite a few responses. Plenty of big boys riding FJR's. On of them rides endurance rally's and even is a rally master. He's a fairly big guy but loves the FJR.

I'm 6 foot 275 and I like the power and the upright sitting possition. I have the seat in the upper possition. No cramps on long hauls. I've ridden the vtx and it was OK but if you feel the power the fjr has over the vtx, it's hard to turn back... Seating possition is very diffrent between the both...

Big Mex

6'3" ex Royal Star owner - love the FJR, never go back to a cruiser... Be prepared to not like the seat for long rides... You'll be windshield shopping too because you'll get turbulence when up (but super quiet when down...). I still love mine after 2 years & 25k miles. Good luck!

Was there a height requirement I wasn't aware of when I purchased this? :glare:

6' and 225lbs (from lifting 300+lb people down 3+ flights of stairs at least twice a shift for the last 10 years). If they can make t up the damned stairs to call us, come down, it's easier.............sorry, I got off on a tangent there.

The seat thing is true, it's a little soft after it's broken in, other than that it's frickin' awesome! How'd yu like the vtx, a buddy of mine is thinkin' about getting one to replace the Vulcan 550(?) he's had for about 10 yrs now.

I think one thing that you should consider is getting the weight of your upper body off of your arms with either some handelbar risers or as I have done a set of helibars upper triple clamp. Moving the bars up and back made things much better for me! 6' 225 pounds

I'm 6'5", 250# and used to ride a Kaw 1500 classic. The FJR fits me fine... after getting a Cee Baily +4/+3 windscreen, bar risers, a Sargeant seat and different grips which I'm about ready to change again. I'm 51 and just can't take more than 100 miles riding or driving anything without stopping to strech for a bit. Gotta looooove the power too.

6' 235lbs. here. Yes, I am a fat bastard.... sold my VTX 1300 to buy the FJR, and I think it was a very smart move. Riding seems to use a lot less effort now, and I didn't have the VTX Sr. like you have. Make the switch, you won't regret it.

I'm 6'2, 260lb, 5 months shy of 50. I also have a Road King. I added Heli risers, and the tallest Cee Bailey windscreen. Very happy with the fit now. Not so sure about the peg-lowering thang, however. Hell, I scrape my boots now and again now! For two-up, however, it's a different story. SWMBO is 5'5, and "not as slim as she once was". W/ her on the back, on the Yam touring seat, my "jewels" rode the tank the entire trip! Until we lose some weight, the Road King's gonna hafta do for "our" trips.

6', 260 lbs.

The bike is great "as is". I added risers, grips, throttle lock, but each change was minor. Using stock seat and stock windshield, have 30k miles in 13 months on my '06.

I have a Russell seat because my butt could only go about 2 hours on the stocker. "Day Long" is more than a name, its the truth about this saddle.

No wonder the WFO shirt order is heavily (pun intended) skewed to the XL, XXL, XXXL and Super Magnum XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXL side, you fat bastards!

Gunny1!

I'm 6'4'',220lbs with a 34" inseam. I have made mods to my 2005 to help my long legs. I have lowered the foot pegs (big help) and raised the seat. I am probaly going to raise the seat higher or have a custom seat made. I love the bike and will probably never sell it. Great motor, great brakes and good suspension.

WOW, Thanks for not only the QUICK responses but all of them!

Well I have had my VTX for over 2 years now. I like it alot. Like you see from some of the riders of the FJR, there are changes that need to be made to make things a little more accomodating. Handlebar risers, seats etc....

Overall for a cruiser, the power and feel of the VTX is pretty darn good. The huge torque will pretty much keep you in front of just about any vehicle out there, at least stoplight to stoplight, lol

It is a slight gas hog but it is an 1800cc. so 28-34mpg seems to be the norm. Some guys are getting 40+ but not the majority. I think if your friend likes cruisers, he will like the VTX 1800. He should definitely look at the Yamaha Stratoliner as well. GREAT write up and the one I sat on at the dealership was VERY comfortable (STOCK).

Well I will continue to browse the forums and If I have any more questions I will ask. Thanks again for all the great replies!

+1 on the seat that and the windshield.

i have never rode on a cruzer unless you call a v65 saber a cruzer but the power and stance of the fjr will make riding thrilling.

6' 300+ and the fjr could care less.
