FJR first bike out of 6 I ever dropped!!

I put mine down 2 years ago in Sturgis at a KOA camp ground. Went to park after a day of riding when I went over on the Right side luckily all that got damaged was the paint on the saddle bag & my pride. Saddle bag lid $400. Pride, Free lesson. B)

Better lesson, that lid coulda been painted by Garauld for way less than $400. Want any more salt in that wound?

I dropped a bike in the box at MSF course (instructors demo bike had been dropped many times) only saving grace IMO on the firs drop was I had a total of 3 hours of saddle time. I also dropped my first bike a Honda Shadow just a few scratches and a twisted ankle first thought through my mind was Damn there are two guys in that truck over there looking right at me. :haha:

Yes, I suspect that this has happened to nearly all of us at one time. Most times, we are lucky and recover. I try to always make it a point to take off straight or nearly straight then turn. I try to remember to at least head the bike no more than 45 degrees off from the direction I want to travel. This way the bike is not leaning or leaning much if I stall it by mistake. Since doing this.... I no longer stall the engine

As much as it hurts, I'll take an accident like this any day for an incident moving faster.

I was leaving the restaurant on uneven payment with some loose gravel on top. Right foot was solid, left not able to touch ground so on foot peg. Wheel turned left to access street. Gave her gas, she stalled and was on the ground before I knew it. The only thing the left foot was good for was doing the splits when the gravel rolled between my foot and the payment. VERY humiliating with everyone in the restaurant looking at me. Just a few scratches to fix on the bike but my pride is going to take awhile....

BTDT. Often. Twice during the 2007 IBR and once during last years Run What Ya Brung. With extra fuel and all the crap I've farkled Moose up with I can't hardly pick her up myself. I feel your pain.

Me too a couple of weeks ago. Lost the front end in a bout 2 inches of sand pullling off the road to turn into a driveway. The front end washed out in the sand which was on top of the pavement. Of course it happend with the SO on board and several of the local forum members witnessing.

Spent last weekend repainting some of the body work and the right saddle bag. This is the first street bike I've drop, unless you count the GasGas (since it has a license plate) but the gasser occurred on the trails in the woods. I don't count my road race bikes.

As they say, oh well shit happens.

Same thing happened to me last summer just after descending Mt. Evans, for god's sake. No damage except to my ego.

Thanks to everyone for responding. Certainly not glad you dropped your bikes just that you are willing to share. I guess my biggest fear was a lot of people told me the FJR was too big for me and I really thought I was going to get the "I told you so" from all of them. Turns out just about everyone has dropped a bike at some point and had no problem fessing up.

When we got Namu back up the guy I was riding with wanted to know if the ride was over. I looked at him like he was nuts and said hell no, she's still running isn't she. I've dropped so many dirt bikes and think nothing of picking it up and getting down the trail that the idea of stopping never accrued to me. Besides it was another beautiful day in Montana and we had another 200 mile to go....

Yep, me too. Stall on a right-hand turn attempt from a stop on a highly-crowned street 1,500 mile from home. Bike was only about a week old.

Dropped on right side. Looking back, I rationalize this incident by assuming that I, sub-consciously, was attempting to make certain the cam chain got enough lube....

I had a pair of waffle bottom shoes on and when I put the kick stand out to lean over it got stuck in the heel of my shoe and folded up as I pulled my foot away. Just about killed myself keeping it from hitting the ground hard. I am very careful to make sure my heel is clear from the stand before I commit the bike to the stand now.

Hey Foxhntr, I notice you are from Paso, were you at Tortilla Town this past Saturday? I have an 07 and my wife a BMW F800ST and we saw an 07 parked there. We looked around but could not find the rider. Nice bike!

I was up in Yellowstone filling up at one of the gas stations in the park, after gassing up I wanted to move my bike so other people would be able to use the pump as I pay. My helmet was on top of the seat and I began to push the bike "bad place for a helmet." and the helmet begins to fall over so I try to catch it as I'm pushing the bike, well the helmet hits the ground on one side and the bike falls on the other. It sucks picking up a fjr with a 100 pounds of camping gear straped to the top of it!

Hey Apollo, no I wasn't riding on Saturday - but we do like Tortilla Town! We rode on Sunday and I talked to a guy from Arkansas on an 07 on the way up Hwy 1 at Cambria. He was riding with some friends on cruisers.

Like I said shit happens. Short side story - when we taught new road racers about racing, we always said there are two types of racers - those that have and those that will - CRASH. You are one or the other. :lol:

had my son on the back many years ago on wing at Marcus Dairy. Went to leave, as I pulled out bike stalled but it was like slow motion as it went down with me trying unsuccessfuly to hold it up. Plenty of help to lift it back up :dribble:

I feel your pain! I was showing off my brand new 06 FJR, and dropped her right in front of everyone. I had ridden her only 10 miles! Damage was minimal, but embarrassment was major. It is all part of the learning process.

I had it painted by a shop here in Wichita Ks. Yamaha (MAP) said they were the best. :glare: It took them 3 times to match the bike. :glare: Just in case this happens again who & where is this Garauld?

Save the $400 smackers and send to Gerauld next time. OOOOOOOPS NO NEXT TIME, much cheaper to repaint.
