This morning I took my first ride on a FJR. A FJR Forum member agreed to swap his 2005 FJR with my 2002 R1150RT for a test ride. It was 38 degrees and raining but I got to test ride a great machine. Amazing engine and transmission! The first stop we came to I gave him the big thumbs up. Rolling on the throttle with this bike will certainly put a smile on your face. Thanks to this forum I was able to find someone local and ride a FJR before buying. Special thanks to J.H. and to the forum for all the great info. :yahoo: :clapping:

There's nothing like that first ride on an FJR. You sorta get the sense that everything is right with the world. Does that mean we're likely to see you somewhere down the road on one of your own?

Brian - you are most welcome. Interesting seeing someone else ride ole Maxine and also interesting riding another bike. Gotta tell you, at the start I was just doing my best to see where the heck I was going! We left at about 36 degrees and rain - the first mile or so I couldn't see so well...

A reverse report - I found the ergos of Brian's BMW to be very similar to my 05 FJR. I did knock my feet on those huge jugs (no, not the good kind) of that twin, but otherwise very similar. Wildly different starting from a stop. I stalled the first time I started out, and then once I got going I'd have sworn I was in second gear! But I could see on the handy dandy gear indicator that I was in first. I also found compression braking to be better, or more pronounced on the BMW, also found that I had to manage shifting more than on the FJR. I had to pay more attention to RPMs and shift more often - the FJR's power lets you be more lazy in shifting. It was nice to try out another bike, but it was nice to get back on ole Maxine!

I'm sorry you really couldn't get a chance to step it out. The FJR is a sleeper in that you can ride all day long like an old lady and not realize just how much power the bike has. It really was too bad about the weather.

To the list of what I did to the bike I should add that the windscreen I have is a CeeBaily +4+3 - so a stock FJR will have a smaller screen. I got the magazine - thanks. And if you have any more questions, or would like the wife to check out the bike, just let me know, I'm happy to help you make your decision.

SF,

Jim

Geeze Jim. You taking a commission on this sale? The poor guy doesn't have a chance!

PS - Brian, welcome to the asylum. I'm sure you will be buying one soon. These bikes just do too many things too well. Now your challenge is to convince the SO that you need to keep them both. ;)
