Ever park your FJR on a sidewalk by a business and get a ticket?

I see a lot of people park their bikes on the sidewalk but I "think" that's illegal parking.

I use a parking stall.

Any of you ever get pinched??

Sidewalk parking is ruled by local ordinance but most will not allow even a bicycle parked on the sidewalk (often ignored) much less a motorized vehicle. Anything that blocks a building entrance or thoroughfare in any way without proper safeguards is considered an obstacle to access under the federal Americans With Disability Act which has been adopted and is enforced by most states as well.

Did it at a "quick chat stop" at a girls house I was fancying (lol) back when I was about 20 (for those keeping score, that was almost 25 years ago!). I had a Deep Red w Gold trim Yami 400, remember that day like yesterday.

Anywhoo, a cop walking the beat came up and whipped out his ticket book as I blitzed of her parents porch to stop the tard from writing the tic. He scolded me, told me never to do it again. The end.

Interesting choice of words. Pinched also means stolen. Yes, I parked my motorcycle on the sidewalk outside the retail store I worked at. Stolen in broad daylight in the middle of the afternoon.

I have parked on sidewalks occasionally but never been ticketed. You have to pick your spots. Don't make a habit of it.

I see people parking their bikes, in strip malls, especially the Home depot, Lowes, Wal-Mart, locations, up against the wall away from the door - I assume they are employees and I assume they are doing it to get some shade from the buildings

but personally never done it as for me it's just plain rude to ride anything on the pavement ( uk sidewalk )

We often have big "backwater" spaces around mall and other entrances. Those are the areas where bicycle parking is set up. I've frequenly parked in these areas without an issue. I'll often ask the local security people at the bigger places or the employees as smaller ones to make sure they're okay with it. Many a time I parked Hugh Jass Gold Wings there and never once been ticketed. The key is not to block any foot traffic.

Actual sidewalks? Notsomuch. Hard to find a place on the typical sidewalk that doesn't impede.

The only "actual sidewalk" I park on is my own. In front of my office I will park on the sidewalk (so my centerstand doesn't dig up the pavement in the parking lot) but elsewhere, I tend to take a car stall....I don't like people that park in the hashed out islands or accessible places like I have seen other do. There is one such place at the local WalMart that almost always has a bike in it....right in front of the fire hydrant.

When I was a college student I used to park my RE5 on the sidewalk on perimeter of the campus. I found a spot that was out of everyone's way and never got a ticket or even a comment about it. That was in Newark, NJ and I parked there because it was the safest place I could find.

Many many times.

Previous jobs, next to the building on a side walk that was out of the way of foot traffic.

Some stores, where there are out of the way spots that are the "norm" for bikes to be parked at.

15 years ago it was a common place thing to see and wasn't too big of a deal around here to do, most car drivers were happy for you to not be taking up a full parking spot. Seems more and more however business owners will hassle you and police are ticketing for it.

If there is a car stall with another bike I will gladly take a corner of the same stall.

Never been ticketed for parking on a side walk, but I have been ticketed for driving a motorcycle on one

. Leaving a friends house who's street was being tore up for a new sewer and repaving. He was the first house in(<100') from the cross street and the bottom of his driveway had 1 foot and a half drop down to the grade of the dirt. They themselves and 4 other neighbors were using the side walk for access to their driveways, driving their cars down it, as one of the street crews told them to do. When I left I got to the cross street where a officer pulling up to the intersection instantly lit me up and started the butt reaming. As we were having our

2 neighbors left driving down the side walk. The officer didn't pay any attention to them.

Clarification - I consider the sidewalk a public walk way right of way for pedestrians, such as what's in front of many peoples front yard or downtown a city street. I would not consider a store sidewalk the same, and I do sometimes park there out of the way against the building. Why; so no one messes with the scoot, it stays cool under a cover, gets me closer, keeps me from hogging up a parking spot. If they have MC parking I use it.

MC Parking at some parking garages are free due to the parking area being before the gate or toll booth.

I park mine next to the bike rack. Bike racks are required by all public buildings or places by zoneing ordinance

And most ordinances have a clause that states that anything over 50cc is not allowed to be parked in a bike rack. Some police and parking enforcement staff are getting smarter about all of these requirements and will ticket a motorcycle, even when it's parked right next to a scooter, without ticketing the scooter. Part of it is that most states don't require license plates for scooters under 50cc, so if they see a plate, they see $$ and tickets. Funny thing is most police and parking staff don't know when a scooter is over 50cc, so they let a lot of illegal stuff go too.

Other day I saw a motorcycle parked in the handicap ramp next to the Post Office, and I know three people who are wheelchair bound that go to that Post Office every day it's open. So, I "announced" to everyone inside when I got in there that I thought I just heard someone call the police to report the motorcycle in the ramp. It turns out a PO employee in the back heard me and ran out and moved his bike. He should know better than that

Now that's strange because I see a LOT of bike racks by buildings on or right by sidewalks.
Bike racks, signs and other things can be erected on sidewalks. There are means to do it that comply to regulations though the 1st thing required for a public right of way is permission from the town which usually involves a lot of red tape. Before I retired this stuff was part of my job and when clients found out the hoops they had to jump through that was often the end of it.
