Until I read this post, I had no idea anyone would even consider parking on a sidewalk, let alone actually do it. If I did park on a sidewalk, I would expect someone to make a phone call to have the bike towed within minutes.
You've never seen motorcycles parked up by buildings in say a shopping center or mall parking lot on or near sidewalks?Until I read this post, I had no idea anyone would even consider parking on a sidewalk, let alone actually do it. If I did park on a sidewalk, I would expect someone to make a phone call to have the bike towed within minutes.
Clarification - I consider the sidewalk a public walk way right of way for pedestrians, such as what's in front of many peoples front yard or downtown a city street. I would not consider a store sidewalk the same, and I do sometimes park there out of the way against the building. Why; so no one messes with the scoot, it stays cool under a cover, gets me closer, keeps me from hogging up a parking spot. If they have MC parking I use it.
Interesting choice of a word to describe someone who puts the value of someone else's life above their own on a regular basis.Did it at a "quick chat stop" at a girls house I was fancying (lol) back when I was about 20 (for those keeping score, that was almost 25 years ago!). I had a Deep Red w Gold trim Yami 400, remember that day like yesterday.
Anywhoo, a cop walking the beat came up and whipped out his ticket book as I blitzed of her parents porch to stop the tard from writing the tic. He scolded me, told me never to do it again. The end.
Well reality speaks, good cops-bad cops. Most I would say really do "serve and protect" while some 'it's just a job'. It's funny how coming out of high school, some of the biggest juvenile delinquents in my school became cops. Actually... thinking back, a couple were actually brats that could never get respect and went on the power-trip binge by having the badge. I do have a friendship (he dates my g/f's sister) with a Sheriff. He's a really good guy but he breaks the law all the time; [eg] last weekend driving heavily on alcohol from a carnival/fireworks (basically **** faced) he said if he gets pulled over "he just whips out his get-out-of-jail-free card" ...(meaning his badge) and he's all good.Interesting choice of a word to describe someone who puts the value of someone else's life above their own on a regular basis.Did it at a "quick chat stop" at a girls house I was fancying (lol) back when I was about 20 (for those keeping score, that was almost 25 years ago!). Don't say anything that may cause him to park elsewhere. Someone could slip in the oil slick and get injured.I don't believe on parkig on sidwalks. There is a guy (grey hair so he might be retired well that and he is always siting in the same corner seat) that parks his bike on the sidewalk in front of a Coffee Time. The coffe shop is on the corner of main street and a one way street. The side walk doesn't have a raised curb it just changes from paving stones on the road to concrete on the sidewalk. I don't think he sees anything wrong with it because he does it all the time.
Oh did I mention that it is a harley?
Pretty much how it works by me. Same goes for much of the other 'violations' such as all those stop signs and other traffic control signage. What is allowed though (standard set by each jurisdiction) is for the property owner to file an affidavit allowing the police department to patrol the property and take certain actions. This gets a little hazy if fought in court (e.g. was the stop sign of the approved type and maintained in a proper position?) but helps to solve the big issue. Think youths ("what's a yout?") hanging out or constant blocking of loading zones. Real world though is that you'll mostly see this used to address a specific problem viewed from either side and not as an everyday patrol thing. Unfortunately with the economy and all the cut backs, patrol has become much more reactive than proactive.HEY ALL.....spoke with a cop about this yesterday, he said shopping malls are PRIVATE property and you can't be sighted at all. (at least in Ca.)
He did say the PROPERTY owner can call to have your bike towed if they wanted to.
Or my part of TEXASWhat's a sidewalk? We don't have those up here in Cow Hampshire.
