My brother rides an FZ1 and is thinking of trying to put FJR saddlebags on it. Anyone done this or heard of it? Any pics?

Can't help you directly with your question, but maybe let him test ride your FJR instead? :p

I let a friend of mine take mine out for a couple hours, and he came back saying it turned in better than his FZ1 (granted, his tires/suspension may need some work), and that the FJR had a lot more low-end, usable power. I'm pretty sure he's looking to sell his FZ1 to make room for an FJR now.

In Europe you can buy the hard bags mounted to the FZ1 from Yamaha. (they also can get ABS over there-damnit) Google up Yamaha Europe FZ1 and look in accessories where the bags are listed. Don't know if you can buy and if they will fit a FZ1 sold in the states. OR log on to FZ1OA forum and look at the FZ's with all sorts of bags in the touring section of the forum. Plenty to choose from.

I guess you're talking about something like this ;) Personally, I think this "mini" FJR setup is great, you get the storage/luggage capacity we all know and love about our FJRs, plus the lighter much faster FZ1. I love my FJR, and I'm pretty quick on it, but when riding tight twisties with guys on FZ1 or similar quicker & lighter bikes it's really hard to be competitive...

You can find lots of info about all things FZ1 on the FZ1 Forum. Here is a link to their post up of various touring solutions:

You can also go a considerably cheaper route and do this:

Maybe he could ride yours, he's in Denver and i'm in iowa. actually he has ridden mine and likes it, it's a $$ thing. Plus he's got his suspension all tricked out on his FZ1. Theres no way my stock FJR turns better than his.

You need to buy the bag mount rails for the Gen 1 FJR, and then come up with a bracket to hold them on the tail of the FZ1. On Gen2's, the bag mounts are build into the rear subframe.
