First off special thanks to Sheila & Bust for hosting another fun event. Also thanks to Pam & Sheila for keeping us feed for the weekend while we hung out in the garage wrecking stuff. Thanks to Andy for not breaking too much stuff so we did not have to spend the entire weekend working on his bike. Also thanks to Ray for providing me with the tapered roller bearing kit for my steering stem maintenance.
After a successful weekend without any major problems to resolve it was time to pack up for the trip home. When we went to load Ray's bike this morning it would not start. Ray kind of looked at me funny and asked what I thought what might be wrong.
I thought of three options:
- Some doofus forgot to plug in the fuel pump power connector & fuel level sensor connector when re-installing the tank.
- Bust got drunk and wreaked something.
- The FJR Fairies got under the tank during the night and unplugged the connectors under the tank.
Option 2 was out since I was with Bust & Andy drinking that night and we were too drunk to wreak anything but ourselves.
Ray is not a doofus so it must have been those pesky FJR Fairies. Ray was not convinced at first since he doubted the existence of FJR Fairies until I reminded him of Beemerdons.
We lifted the tank and sure enough the leads were not connected. Plugged everything in and the bike fired right up. A stop in Port Huron was required because it was the first Tim Horton's on the way home. We also filled up with gas for my truck and stopped in at the duty-free for supplies. The bridge crossing was the exact opposite of the trip going to Bust's and we were across the bridge and rolled into Canadian Customs without stopping. We then got asked if we had the ownerships for the bikes in the trailer. I had all my documentation but some doofus had left his ownership at home so it was off to secondary inspection.
I had visions of sending the next week as we tried to clear this up with Canadian Customs but all they asked was whether the bikes had Ontario plates. We answered to the affirmative and we were allowed to continue on our way without even opening the trailer.
One more stop at the next Tim Horton's in London and I dropped off Ray & all his gear before continuing through Toronto which went unbelievably smoothly.
So I'm home safe & sound and have survived another Bust Tech Day. Thanks to all that dropped in on the UStream broadcast and tune in next time in the fall when we complete wreak Andy's electrical system.
Andy's current electrical system is a marvel of science in that we found the positive lead on the battery not even connected but by some fluke of nature the bike would still start on occasion. Remember that Andy changed his own battery a while back and given Andy's proficiency with tools the current state of Andy's FJR electrical system does not come as a surprise.
