Figure the logo, ...patch, sticker, whatever, needs to have an interesting & distinctive shape: for instance round ,oval, shield, or something of the like, the nominated "figurehead" is afterall a retired carreer military guy, I think he'd appreciate something w/coat of arms-like appearance, ...bit of heraldry & all that!

Just playing around with the tools currently available (resolution, fonts, photos, etc.). Still looking for ideas, but something based on this could work out just fine:

I agree with Mike, that's EXACTLY what I had pictured in my mind.

Now, make it oval (so it may have to be a bit wider) and add the two titles, as discussed at the breakfast........and we have a winner!

Awaiting everyone else from the breakfast list to vote:

Not bad. Not bad at all.

Joe, is there any way to get prt of the windshield in that shot? That would leave room on the borders for the two slogans...

What do you think of this? I got a little arty with the photo and added an extra line.

I could have this up for sale as a 3" x 5" sticker at cafepress.com almost immediately. With no mark-up, the price would be 2.99 + shipping per sticker...

Pretty nice, ...how difficult would it be to make the text follow the arc of the oval?

I gave that a shot using Word Art in Microsoft Word (only way I know how to do it) and it looked like ***. Just mashed the letters together unless I used a font too small to read on a sticker. Remember -- I'm AARP too. You know how us old folks struggle at this newfangled computer stuff.

EDIT: Just to clarify -- I meant it looked like ugly ***.

I'd like to see it done the way we originally talked...

It might be nice to see the photo with Dave wearing his helmet, to. Just for comparison.

I like the shot of Dave with the baseball cap and the windshield showing. That would be sufficient without the co-pilot line.

Is there a less artsy version of that shot?

Also, can we try to see how it would look with "Established 2007" added either under Vinatage Riders or FJRForum.com? Ten or wenty years from now we might enjoy that.

Well, okay, here's one last design from me. After this, I'll let others submit designs for the vote. The whole thing would have to shrink a bit to fit on a sticker, but here are the basic elements in one file.

Damn, that's good.

Round off the corners, make it oval in shape and, IMHO, it would be just about perfect.

With the tools I have right now, I can't turn this into an oval shape -- at least, I can't do it very cleanly; however, I can have that image printed on an oval shaped sticker. In the end, you get the same thing.

I was playing around on my cafepress.com site this evening, doing a bit of thinking (always a dangerous thing), and I have a proposal to make to the group so we can get this moving.

There are three parts to this:

1. A proposal for the logo(s)

2. A proposal for set of cool things that the logo could go on

3. A proposal for what to do with any revenue this generates

To go forward with what's below, we need to get permission from turbodave to use his face, from richard to use his photo, and from slappy to use fjrforum.com. Anybody want to take care of that?

1. A proposal for the logo(s)

I think the design in post #34 above should be accepted as our official logo. And since there are some applications where the photo in the logo won't work, I think we should use the design below (same thing with the photo removed) as our secondary logo.

2. A proposal for set of cool things that the logo could go on

I could sell this stuff on my cafepress site (where I sell fjr t-shirts) and that way no one would have to pay any set up fees or collect money to make a group buy or maintain an inventory or any of that pain in the butt stuff. The place is a print on demand business, so they'd make and ship it directly to anyone who wanted to buy it. I just have to keep the store up.

I'd put the graphic in post 34 on a vertical oval sticker, a rectangular sticker, and a magnet. I can have the secondary logo printed on caps and a golf shirt. I can also have the secondary logo embroidered on a cap, polo shirts, and jackets.

3. A proposal for what to do with any revenue this generates

I propose that we generate zero revenue. I'll specify no markup on the vintage rider products so members can get them at the lowest possible price and no one has to bother tracking the funds. I like easy.

An alternative I like even better, though: We put a small markup on all products between now and Tim's memorial service at the end of the month. I'd put all generated profits into the account Richard set up for Tim's family. After the service, I'd take the markup off and the prices go back to the base price.

So, madmike or mcml -- can you run a vote on this, or do you want to see if someone else will work up a design?
