After seeing some of the sweet deals hear on the forum I ponder if I should have bought a used FJR. For instance here is a great deal.

25 k on this bike and it has a Russell seat and nice farkles. Excellent. This will save the new owner serious coin. I wanted new and I paid a big price for that.

I find it interesting that some people think the FJR is faster then the Bandit. I also moved up from a 2002 Bandit to a 2009 FJR. The bandit was the same as the FJR for power under 8,000 RPM. Over 8,000 RPM the FJR needs a gear change soon, while the Bandit becomes an animal. I loved that kick from the bandit and with the FJR had the same. I miss that scary feeling. Handling is another story. The bandit suffered from a weak front end. The FJR easily out handles the Bandit. It is way easier to carve up the curves on the FJR, and miles just seem to melt away. Buy the FJR, you won't regret it.

Well, the dealer I was working with hasn't bothered to take the time to respond to my counter offer. So, I decided they can suck it! You would think that in the middle of winter they would be more responsive. I'm taking is as a sign that I really need to wait until spring and test ride a Concours 14 back to back with an FJR.

No, don't do that!! Coni's suck a$$ and the people who ride them are *$#)^%#(!!! :p

Actually, they aren't that bad. I rode a friends and I can say I wouldn't buy it. He loves his but I didn't like the feel of it for me. Maybe, I'm just prejudice. Have you looked online at Cycletrader? You can usually get a good or better deal even with the dealer shipping or you picking it up.

Yep, I've checked out the Cycletrader listings. Last week, I talked with a salesperson from a dealer in Florida. Even after paying for shipping, I would save about $250 over the best deal I've found locally. However, I don't think I really want to buy a bike unless I can personally pick it up. Once the weather is warm enough to ride, I wouldn't mind flying or taking a bus and riding a bike home. I wonder if there would be warranty problems if I didn't stop somewhere on the way home for the break-in service?

Do you have anything to back up your claims of greater top-end on the bandit? FJR trap speeds are higher in the 1/4 mile typically and all you have to do is line them up and you'll watch an FJR walk away from a B12, ESPECIALLY on the top end. I'll make a video next time I ride with my buddy and his 03 B12. The Bandit has about 101 peak hp stock.

Don't get me wrong, I put 50k miles on my Bandit and owned it for 9 years, loved it.

Get a used one. Seriously, save a boat load of money and you'll have a perfectly fine motorcycle. Average FJR owner has about 20 years of riding experience and they take care of their bikes. On top of that, the FJR are pretty tough, don't really care how many miles are put on them. Grab an 08 or newer... only real change is standard heated grips on later models.

Well, I take back my "the dealer can suck it comment". They finally got back to me accepted my counter offer! I'm paying for the bike on Saturday and they will be delivering it to me on Wednesday.

I don't think I'm too worried about not test riding the Concours before deciding on the FJR. The ergos on the FJR just feel a lot better to me in spite of the fact that on paper they look almost identical. That and the bigger gas tank are big pluses for me.

I agree that I probably should have more seriously considered a used FJR. There is even a nice 2010 for sale in Baxter,MN not far from where my in-laws live. But, if it weren't for people like me, where would all the nice used bikes come from?

Haha...Don't you hate it when that happens? Congratulations on your new bike. Don't stress it...I like new over used too.

No, but I suspected the Bandit 1250 was a tad faster (acceleration, 1/4 mile) than the FJR, and the following links support that:

Bandit 1250 - standing qtr mile - 11.18

https://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/bikereviews/searchresults/Bike-Reviews/Suzuki/Suzuki-GSF1250SF-Bandit-2007-current/

FJR, standing qtr mile - 11.60

https://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/bikereviews/searchresults/Bike-Reviews/Yamaha/Yamaha-FJR1300A-2001---current/

Motorcycle Consumer News (better source IMO) found similar results. I've spent a lot of time at the drag strip - that 4 tenths of a second is quite a bit on the top end.

To date, the Bandit 1250 is the fastest bike I have ever ridden, with a highly modded '05 ZX-6 as a close second. That said, I wouldn't trade my FJR for a Bandit - no way, no how. Good luck with your 2011 purchase.

Well, I won't dispute those numebers, but an 11.60 is the slowest time I've ever seen for an FJR. Most times I've seen around 10.7-11.0 @122-127. Check around.

Well done - the bike in the vid was modified, but his oponent's stock '03 FJR ran 11.17.

Usually, professaional riders for the advertisement rags can launch the bike pretty good.

Maybe the FJR is faster than the Bandit. :)

Regardless, my bone stock '05 is plenty more than I'll ever use.

Do I have anything to back it up? No, just personal impressions. Maybe it's just the way the power comes on. The FJR pulls hard right from the start all the way to redline. The Bandit felt like it had a hard punch at about 10,000 rpm. Granted I didn't ride up in that RPM range that often. Also, sometimes time plays with memories, so I might just be wrong.

Way to go! on the new FJR. A guy should hopefully be able to buy a new bike at least once in his life. Might as well be the best!

There are more FJR riders in the area than you might think. Some are getting together at Gramp's place today. Look in the regional ride section/midwest of the the Forum.

You will not regret the FJR purchase, only that you waited too long and that winter finally came. but in a few weeks...yoohoo!.... And check out the CFO coming up in September. Good times, great roads.

Great choice and congrats on the purchase. You will enjoy all of the features of the FJR. My personal favorite is the shaft drive, got rid of that chain on the DL1000 V-Strom. Enjoy and remember ATGATT!!!! We want you around to be on the forum and another friend to visit and ride with.

The bike was delivered earlier today!

I sure hope we get an early spring this year!
