.... and with a Smuggler on you sure aren't going to be putting on a rear topcase...
Actually it is a high quality piece of work and the topcase case will go on just as if the rear seat were still in place... no muss, no fuss. I travelled with Fairlaner and DJBill and noticed that their Smugglers are very convenient and in no way interferes with a top box. Personally I'd like to dump the tank bag and get one, but it's a bit pricey.
Oh, you CAN run a topbox with a smuggler, but WHY?

If you are going to shell out the significant $$$ for a Smuggler, why would you ruin the look with a topbox? And if you are partial to a topbox, why spend the $$$$ for a Smuggler when you cold just put a bag (like the MotoFizz) there instead?

my smuggler makes it convieniant around town, carries my cell and charger.locks up my 550 if i leave the bike.and added to my storage capacity on the cfr trip rather than just a rear seat......oh and the main reason is they look cool...lol

Skoooter this is the one I am talking about. I remember wanting one and when I see the one you posted with the whale tail trunk I can definitely say I don't want that one. I know I clicked on a link that went to the guys website and he had more pictures of it posted. I remember that the guy took a gas tank and cut it up to make the trunk. It is metal not fiberglass.

I am very familiar with Randy's trunk and have pictures of it being constructed.

Why wouldn't run a trunk and a smuggler? That is the real question.
Hey Johnny, I thought you were gonna give this a whirl by making some sort of foam mold. Have you given up on that? I wonder if you could fit a spare cam in one of those smugglers? :p

My guess is another tech day. and a bunch of foam coolers, and we could mod our own smuggler. But then how do we keep the beer cold....?

https://www.corbin.com/yamaha/yfjr13_smug.shtml I've made a decision: If I can't find a nice used Smuggler for my 2003 Miss Lucy Liu by October 28th, my 61st Birthday, this Certifiable Old Fart is simply going to spend the $799 for a new one!!!
Great Attitude!! Being Very Happily Single and free as a bird, I treat myself to Killer Birthday Presents every year!!!

I need to finish my valve check first. If you are interested get some foam and we can make a mold. I have some foam but still need more. I have my smuggler now so we can look at how it is made. Anyone that is interested in helping let me know.

can't fit my huge ol' Shoei in a Smuggler :p

Keep us posted! I have an idea for something different but it needs a Smuggler form

Sorry for the bogus pic , I had searched for a full pic and it came up. It does look bigger and like it would hold a reasonable amount of stuff.

Found this thread as I was googling the product and low and behold the damn thing actually went up in price by 30% to a whopping $799. I guess when things can't sell in a recession you just create another market for it. Rich guys who have to have an item so exclusive no one else will have it.

They are nice though........Worth every penny IMHO..

Plus when you want to sell one the don't hang around long.

Got mine Tuesday, it's looks good and it's nice to have the saddle bags off. Now if I could only get it back off the bike

Try to find a used one. I got one from a guy in Vancouver who was selling his FJR. Luckily he was willing to part out the smuggler for $350!!!

Sanded, painted with Colorite Cerulean Silver and clear coated - doesn't look half bad. It started out as matte black.

I manage to get my rain gear in there (jacket and pants) a couple pairs of gloves, a small bottle of Slime and a really small Slime air compressor. It's packed pretty solid with that gear.

I kind of like the giant "whale-tail" box, though. Look like it's several times bigger than the smuggler.

I just happen to have a spare tank lying around here somewhere.
