Some of you guys know our Canadian brother Mark ( FJREH ! ). It appears he was rear ended by one of his own riding partners on a tour of the Southwest. I'm really glad he's OK, it pays to wear the correct gear, but his riding partner was in jeans... not good !!!

Man, that's a crappy way to end a vacation.

Glad they weren't seriously hurt. The only photo that would load was pretty screwed up.

photobucket blows...

Dave, How do we know he was "rear-ended"? A guess-timate would say they "touched", but there's nothing said in the post about a rear-end accident. From what I remember, riding with Mark, you'd have to be going pretty fast to catch up to him. :D Man, that BMW doesn't look good, does it. Its peculiar how bad our bikes look when they're laying on the ground all twisted and wounded, isn't it?

Dayang, I hope everyone is okay and there is no permanent damage. Bruised egos heal over time and minor injuried will, too. I hope they had good insurance....but who'll blame whom? :dribble:

Bad accident, fortunate results. Could've been a lot worse. Were the bags off? I could use a new right side cover. Or is it too soon to ask? Don't want to seem morbid or anything...

Somehow this:

Conjures up images of a possible outcome of a recent experience I almost had.

Did he stop in the road to look at a bear?

I loves my account. Ya just gotta know how to work the angles. In the photo links printed on the tatoo page, I changed i2 to www and all was good.

Were the bags off?

From this photo, I would guess yes.

Mark, I hope you and your riding buddy are OK. :(

If you need a place to store your bike and can somehow get it to CA, let me know.

Here is all I know, from the words of Mark himself....

All I remember was slowing to 45 mpg entering Tuba, Ar.

Looking to the left at the first building in town.

Then a bang, holly fck and coming to rest in the red sand.

I didn't see a thing...it happened so quick.

We were riding up a slight hill

I wear full leathers and a back protector.

We riden 2400 miles to that point, half way through our trip.

It was very gusty yesterday...that could have been the cause.

I bounced to my feet once I stopped.

My FJR was close by.

I've pulled some of the add-ons off the bike....but I had to leave it behind.

The bike is perfect for me.....totally customized.

So, I have a bruised right heel, sore left knee and shoulders.

Other than that, I'm very lucky (we are)

He was wearing jeans, kevlar shorts...it doesn't look very nice.

Dont' wear jeans!!!!!!!

We where both taken to the hospital for inspection.

We have 12 riders on our trip and a support vechile.

Thanks for everones concern.

so glad he's ok. i rode with him in reno. nice guy with a great bike. could tell he really loved it. sorry to hear about its demise.

Latest update .....

"we've rented a car and are in cedar city, ut.

i'm going to continue on the trip in a car.

thanks, again

mark"

I headed back to the wrecker today.

Looks like the impact was between the tire and the right saddle bag (bags where on)

Broken rear rim, wave rotor, the muffler was pushed up and out.

I took some detail pictures for my records and to help out the insurance company.

The bike's in bad shape.

I haven't been paying attention.

How does the 2006 FJR compare with the 2004??

Comments?

My 2004 was totally dialed in to me.

Hate to leave her at the wrecker.

Mark

Hey Mark, Glad you're OK. Too bad about your bike though, you sure did put a lot into it to make it yours. Hopefully the insurance co will do right by you for all the add-ons you put on, just hope it's not ICBC you have to deal with.

You'll love the 06, or maybe you'll wait for an 07?

Hate to see this happen to anybody, but I am glad all are ok. Even better that you can continue your trip, even if it is by car. Best of luck to both of you.

Glad everyone's OK and good on ya for finishing the trip.
Ouch! Sorry to hear about your crash but like everyone else' sentiments so far glad you're ok. Had this happen one time (albeit not so bad of an outcome) once when a dear jumped out in front of me and I had to get on the brakes. Guy behind me hit me and pushed my seat subframe up (Gixer750). No injuries though.

I know you stated the bike was perfectely setup but I'm sure part of the fun will be setting up your new faster blue 06 (unless you wait for 07)!

Cheers!

Sorry to hear of the misfortune, glad you were okay for the most part, best wishes on the rest of your trip.

Yep 06 but I'd wait for the 07.

My personal opinion; Get another '04. They're around, and have more room in the nose for farkles. If you loved yours (like I do), a different bike may bring resentment. But ride an '06 and make up your own mind.
Glad you weren't badly injured. Sorry about your bike.

Can we get some photos of the gear you were wearing?

Pm Quicksilver he rode my 06 and I rode his 04 (03 maybe) we traded for 30 min to an hour on some twisties at EOM. Get his op on the 06.

His bike was ok but I wanted my 06 back. The biggest dif I noticed was his was more smooth on accel. than mine but I later removed a LOT of slack from the throttle cable and this made a big diff. He has also done ever farkle (just about) to the bike including the barbarian mod. My trainy is stock. His Pillion found my bike a little rough in the seat. Stock shock/ stock seat. I believe she was used to aftermarket shock and seat.

He did have a big grin on his face at the end though. I also have the ride on vid so you can hear him playing with the engine.

Mark - sooo sorry to hear about the accident and the wreck of your '04. On the upside it could have been much worse injury-wise and I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt. Be in touch when you get back and let me know how its going.

Mark, Rocketdoc, Dwavey and I rode down to Reno together and Mark and I have had the opportunity to ride together several times - he really is an awesome rider.

For the person who wanted to see a pic of Mark's riding gear he's shown in the gear with the Yamaha logo in the pic where the fellas are checking out the fit of the traffic controller's jeans. ;)
