There's a rider in Terlingua Texas right now, and it looks like another behind him. I wonder if the famous goat is a bonus?
Thats why I like to think of rain as nature's giant mist cooling… Bring it on !I think the daily reports are just fantastic.
Those riders that went 1500 miles in 24 hours to Key West in this heat are hard core, man!! This sauna shit we've got down here now ain't no joke.....

His spot hasn't updated in quite some time. I thought maybe he was taking a rest bonus, which as you point out seemingly could be a good idea. However, his last spotwalla location doesn't hint to that idea:I do not know the Rest Bonus window, but to score the bonus and then during the "Rush" hour take a rest bonus and ride out during theYa, but has anyone told rob that??Rob is from New England. No reason to be in Chinatown or Brooklyn on his way there.
Roger continues to head east, he has plenty of time to get back to the CP if he takes a straight path, but not many riders are taking straight paths. You'd also assume he needs to get some sleep, wonder if has earned rest bonus on this leg.
wonder if he knows many eyes are on him? I guess his mom was right when she said he was unique.
night seems like a possible solution.
Thanks. So unless it turns up red it would be safe to assume that he's (hopefully) moving along somewhere then.Yes. That's the last "ping" spot got from it. Some tracker models stop sending after being on for 24 hours if you don't reset them - we saw that with a couple of folks toward the end of leg 1. Or it could be something with Spotwalla. That signal is from 5:17 eastern.
In my defense, he was on I-495 at the time, could have been I-95N bound.Rob is from New England. No reason to be in Chinatown or Brooklyn on his way there.
ya, bummer, here is is current location:that spot just showed up again at a Kawasaki/Yamaha shop in downtown HIcksville, after a bunch of farting about on the side of the interstate.
That sucks, he was going to have an epic ride. Hope all is well
I hope Earls didn't overthink this one. It's difficult to follow a lot of this just sitting in my office, let alone after being on the road for eight days (yes, I've done rallies before). There can be a point after which it isn't fun anymoreA couple of riders asked me to call them throughout the rally just to break the monotony of chugging down interstate miles. Spoke to two of them yesterday. Summary of some of their interesting comments:
- This rally is hard because there is no clear way to create a string without breaking it by leaving out other high point bonuses
- All the bonuses are available throughout the rally, but even their point values change with each leg
- I had a plan, but then seeing a possible string quickly breaks the plan and I'm back to square one
- Started leg 2 and its going well, but I've decided to can that plan and spend the night re-routing....this sucks
- I've decided to retire after this rally. (He is an experienced rally rider and rallymaster)
- Leg 3 looks like itll be a damn free for all
- I'll blame it all on the gps
- I'll go to a food market and buy meat, poultry, fish and then head to toys r us to buy dinosaurs....slam all that crap at the scoring table
My hats off to Jeff Earls. If this sets the stage for future rallies, I'll make sure to only offer my services as a volunteer
At this stage of the game Is there any way he could even make it back in time? That's a lot of miles to lay down not stop.I'm just a few minutes from there. Gonna take a ride and see if there's anything to offer.
I see the rider on Long Island is on the move again.[/qiuote]
Looks like they are playing it smart and taking a rest bonus to wait out the traffic. Gonna have a heck of a ride ahead.
Eric said he needs the bolts... he already has nuts. Several people are on-site to screw him up. C U Saturday.Duct tape belongs on BMWs and Kawasaki's.... not FJRs!Thanks guys. I was laughing at his duct tape windshield but it seems to be working for now.
Let's get both well nuts and proper fasteners ready to go for Eric at Checkpoint II.
