They're allowed, but likely wouldn't have prevented her from being on the fourth tire even if she wanted to run one...which she doesn't.  As noted in the first report she destroyed a tire the first day of the rally due to some weird damage event and  barely got a round doughnut to replace it in Idaho.  I think she got a short-lived sport tire that got her only part of the way to CP2.

Then she pulled a little-life-left-but-enough-tread-to-get-to-CP2 rim/tire in Illinois yesterday from another FJR rider that moved heaven and earth to get it to her...which ironically came off a non-ABS 2003 FJR that happen to have an ABS-enabled rim...with smaller rotors that had to be swapped.

The short version is she's scrambling to stay in this thing and keeping her chin above water...barely.

My bet is she's on a decent conventional sport touring tire and will make it to the end of the rally barring some bad luck.
Yes, I was just curious in general about the car tires. And that makes a lot more sense now about Wendy scrambling with the replacements. Thanks! Keeping my fingers crossed for her.

Judging by the picture of Wendy's first tire I'm pretty sure that tread pattern is a PR2. I've bought and used up 11 or 12 of them so it's a pattern I'm fairly familiar with.

Car tire is allowed but I think rules call for TPMS if the tire i a run flat type. FJR requires modification to the rear brake arm for clearance.

And whatever tire problems she had took its toll.  Leg 2 standings are up.

Edit:

Wendy (-10), Andy Regnier (-8), and Ken Meese {😞} dropped out of the top 10.  Taking their places are Eric Bray moving from 12 to 5, Bob Lilley from 13 to 8, and Kirsten Talken Spaulding, in the biggest Top 10 move, picked up 12 spots from 22 to 10.

Largest upward movers are Art Gavin up 33 from 65 to 32, Steve Snell picked up 26 from 60 to 34, Jim Burriss is + 24 from 64 to 40, and Gerry Arnel moved 21 from 69 to 48.

Marc Bialt slipped 28 places from  29 to 57, Bruce Edwards lost 23 from 43 to 66, Bucky Dent -21 from 34 to 55, and Andy Mackey -20 from 45 to 65.

Talking about moving, Wendy must have been hammering it.  She logged the most Leg 2 miles (3630).

Marty Cover was the most efficient.  He logged the fewest miles (1120) but picked up the most points per mile (PPM) at 24.1 and was rewarded by slipping 7 places to 47.  Top 10 riders Eric Bray and Mike Brooke logged second highest at 14.9 PPM, Steve Gallant and Bob Lilley were right behind at 14.5 and 14.3 respectively with Jim Owen next at 13.9.

Not that surprised. Mike is really good at this. I expect him to finish strong as long as rallywide bonus snags from the first two legs don’t throw some wrench into his plans for leg 3. Even then, he’ll find some way.
That’ll depend on leg 3 locations/values. Mike had a more balanced approach to rally wide vs leg bonuses in leg 2.  He has the mid and upper Midwest to cover.  Jim Owen has the Midwest, south and southwest to play with.  It’ll be way interesting to see how this plays out.  I really don’t like puzzles but am getting a much better appreciation for how the RM constructs and how the players solve and likely have to adapt on the fly.

Man, they are really spread out all over the place... and it looks like a few are headed to the Keys again??
I think they were headed to “ the birthplace of speed “ park in Ormond, where Daytona started on the beach, they’re headed north again.

Jim Saul and Mike Brooke were the only ones to pick up the FL rally wide bonus in Leg 1.  I haven't been through the Leg 2 score sheets yet to see if anyone picked it up in Leg 2.  But with the route Mike took and the miles he covered in Leg 1 I'd be surprised if the FL bonus is too far south.  But who knows what else in FL might also be offered up in Leg 3.

From the leg 1 scorecards, the FL bonus is Dr. John Gorrie, so this is likely in Apalachicola on the Gulf Coast near Panama City.  Some riders have been near there lately.
