Well mine is done. A ways back someone posted about the missing rear mud flaps on the 2013s, well a few weeks ago I had purchased a 2013 and was about done with the break-in, took a peek in front of the rear tire and no mudflap, just a large accumulation of road grunge in the shock cavity. The previous postee had included a part #5JW-21621-10-00, which is for a 2012 rear flap but all appear to be same. Ordered one and installed today. The flap comes with nubs to press into the pre-manufactured holes. Took a lot longer to clean out the area than pop in the flap, just a touch of wd-40 for lube. While at the dealer I looked at a new 14ES and no flap there either, parts had no PN for a 2014 rear flap. Someone has flubbed the dub on such an outstanding motorcycle. If the holes are there why not the flaps? Area kind of hidden with the bags on, readily apparent on center stand with bags off.

The guy responsible for flap installation is a drinker. Sometimes he's on, sometimes he's not.

I have absolutely no proof if this, but it's as plausible an explanation as any at this point.

The parts list I am looking at today shows the mud flap for the 2012 and previous models....and the 2014ES but not for the 2013-2014A models. Makes perfect sense to me!

Perhaps there was a rubber shortage or the JIT supply chain broke down for some of the bikes. I have a 2014ES with vin000021 and it has the flap I would have refused the bike if it had not had one. That flap protects a lot of expensive equipment. Send the Yamaha folks in Cypress, CA a customer complaint. .

Due to this thread, I just ordered one for $8. Still waiting on the missing air cleaner cover from the dealer. What else is missing?

My '13 (#828) was flapless at delivery time also. Because of the nice folks here, I pointed it out to the dealer and now I have one. It took a while to get it in and without it, the area is a pain to clean

Anyone know an email address for Yamaha to contact them about this?

Try Yamaha-motor.com That is what is shown in the owners manual.
That's a website not an email address. And there's no email addresses listed on that website. My question was; Does anyone know an email address for Yamaha to contact them about this? In the hopes that someone had contacted Yamaha via email in the past about something and might still have that address.

OK, Here is an email address that will get you to a Field Support Mgr. It may be wise for someone from the west to contact this person. Jesse Koeller, Field Support Mgr., Western Region, Yamaha Motor Corp, U.S.A. 6555 Katella Ave., Cypress, CA 90630. E-mail: [email protected]. I would be more inclined to send him an email and ask him to direct you to the proper customer service unit. I met Jesse and he is a good guy. As a side note, I went to the Yamaha web site and if you drill down to details there is an 800 number for Customer Service in Cypress, CA.

received the ordered part, 1 minute install, had a beer. For $8 I just couldn't be bothered.

Well, you gentlemen have started a stampeed to the Dealer on this part, I stopped by the dealer on Tuesday and ordered one, told me it would be in on Thursday. stopped by last night and they said it is on backorder and is expected sometime in early March. It's probably not a big deal for me since the snow is deep and predicted to get even deeper this weekend. The delay sould give me enough time to get it cleaned down there before installation.

Mine is back ordered as well, no ETA. Maybe there's a world-wide shortage and that's why Yammy did not put these on the 'A.

So odd...just looked at another '14ES at another local dealer and it fits have the flap. The '13A and '14A at the dealer I use do not. Not sure if it was bean counters or just an oversight when designing the Gen3's, but it it's odd that the flap mysteriously reappeared on the ES.

I asked the dealer to get one for me prior to delivery.

He said their system indicated one in stock (nationwide) at the Cali. warehouse.

We'll see if it arrives prior to the bike delivery next week
