Hello all, I'm the idiot coworker who bought the bike with the flashing fuel gage. I finally got the chance to work on it. I'm not a mechanic, but once I got the tank off and the screws loose from the pump assembly I was able to look in and see the float arm was out of position. I pulled it all out and put the arm back in place. Once it was all back together it worked as advertised! I have a fuel gage!

Thanks for all the suggestions and thanks to ULEWZ for the help. I know I got lucky, but it's sometimes better to be lucky than good.

BaronK

Good deal Gordon, I knew you could do it. Now we can go ride.

Welcome to the forum! You are going to love your new bike. Either it will be a garage queen or you will spend your kids inheritance dolling it up.

Be careful with that siphon hose ;)

Sure beats the heck out of being unlucky!

Congrats on the easy cheap fix and welcome aboard.

That 1st post surely must rank up there as an original!

As you found at, the answers are here. Welcome to the asylum!

Congratulations on the new-to-you bike and on being able to fix the fuel gauge issue.

My wallet (which has been Obedience trained by my darling Bride) was saying "Pssst! Remind him of the days when there were no fuel gauges. Back when you filled the tank and wrote the ODO reading on the windshield with a grease pencil... And carried a gas can and siphon hose..."

Another welcome! It's always nice to hear back from the person that had a problem so we know if/how a problem was resolved and add that information to the collective.

Thanks all for the welcomes. The bike isn't going to be a garage Queen. I use it to commute to work now, and when the weather warms up, longer trips. I did 500 miles on my HD Sportster 883. Never again. No comfort at all. This bike is much nicer.

As for watching the ODO, that's what I did on the Sportster. That's why I wasn't panicked about the fuel gage. However, this is MUCH nicer.

As for ULEWZ's ride, he wants me to go with him to Reno. That's a long one but I may be ready by then. My wife just said she'd follow me in her car.

See you all in the funny pages.

Lancaster, CA to Reno, NV is 404 miles. Stick around this forum long enough and you'll find that's just a morning ride for lunch.

400 miles may be a lunch break for some, but it's a bit long for me. 200 maybe... By the way, I meant to say thanks for all the pictures and diagrams, too. They were very helpful in knowing where to look and what to look for. Keep up the good work for all us newbies.

Baron, you will be truly surprised at how fast the miles burn by on these bikes. 200 miles is leas than a tank of gas. You're gonna have a blast!
