Flat tire on your bike

tyler how to you like your rear soft or hard ...................................................................................what psi do you use

one on my GL1500 last year, next one before that in 1980. picked up a big drywall screw pulling up to a gaspump; tire just blew and I could barely move the bike with the tire flat and the bead broken because the tire was flopping so much.

if it had happened on the highway I don't see how it would've been possible to avoid a wreck.

 
4 rear flats in 40 years/250,000 miles of riding the street...1 on a V65 - 1984; 1 on an ST1100, 2004; 2 on the FJR, 1 last month, one about 2 years ago. 2 were discovered in a low air condition as I was checking the tires before a ride; 2 were slow leaks that gave some warning of a "soft" rear tire while riding the twisties...

 
I said I'd never had a flat on a motorcycle, then proceeded to have 2 in one season. Well 4 if you count the times the same flat on my FJR went back down after operator error on gooey string.

The FJR flat was with a Storm that was down to the chords (by the time it got punctured). When a Storm is at 1/2 tread, don't run around at 135, it won't last long. No more Storms for me. Of course if you hit a nail or some such, tread depth (or lack thereof) may not matter. :blink:

 
Two flats, both on the rear, in 35 years of riding. The last one was after passing through fresh chip seal. The rear picked up what looked like an arrow head tip. Wide, deep gash that slime wouldn't fix. I now pack a repair kit but have never used it. I think when the next rear needs replacement, I'll puncture it a few times and practice with the plugs.

 
1 - rear, years ago on an old FZ600. Never thought I'd say this but this is the only situation I'd rather take it in the rear, so to speak. I was at highway speed and the rear end blow out was damn hard to control, the front would have dumped me.

1 rear for me... on the way to NAFO. Same as Big Sky, passing through fresh chip seal (fukn Montana Highways! :angry: ) Back end started to feel soft acceleration into the corners up the west side of Logan Pass and after a couple more corners the back end was wobbling (but just when leaned over.) I am totally impressed by how well the FJR handled it! :yahoo: By the top of the pass I was riding on total flat. Unfortunately I had no patch kit with me so this is where I waited for a flat deck tow truck to take me into Helena. Three cheers for the boys at Helena Cycle Center for getting me back on the road quickly!

 
30 years of riding. Four different bikes. Honda Sabre, RZ-500, FJ1200 and now thr FJR. Carried C/T tire goop all those years and had my first flat (rear) with a roofing nail on the FJR two years ago. Went flat in the parking lot at work. Local dealer came by in thier truck and fixed me up by the end of the work day. ya never no when its going to get ya.

 
Two rear blowouts on my CB 450 (tubed tires) years ago; it got a little exciting. And three rear nails on the FJR; never knew till I saw the nail in the tire for two of them, the other, I found when checking air pressures (got to love tubeless tires............fairly rare to have a catastrophic loss of air).

The fresh chip seal that gave me a rear flat was in Washington state, just out of Ione. F)(&*&^%%$W#%T*(U(& Washington highways!
