I have about 60 or so miles to get to the good riding in Arkansas. I would haul it up somewhere close, then ride. I know I could ride it that far, just wouldnt want to. So for me baggage and wind protection is not really a consideration.

Yeah I already have a couple of Scotts stabilizers on 2 other dirt bikes, so I'll just get the mounting bracket and switch them around. it only takes a minute to take one off and put it on another bike.

I just priced one out for the KTM. It would be $700 for everything :dribble: . I guess I will have to wait a lot longer for this farkle.

A long ride report with dozens of pictures and video clips of Arizona. El Jefe, you have some beautiful country your way. Arizona riders are insane though... I definitely need to get more experience before I can do Copper Canyon and beyond. I got tired seeing some of the obstacles ridden. But beautiful! Oh, guess I already wrote that.

Thanks Shiny, I know a third of the guys that made that ride; y Si, riding to the historic AZ Coke Ovens is a real ball buster!!

You, Joe and I are going to form "Mutual Admiration Society" for traversing Copper Canyon together. I do believe that the three of us will all be riding at the same speed on the trails; so we "Tres Amigos" will stick together and help each other out!

"KTM Boys" should also probably stick together; Brian, Chris & fjrrider. Brian Boles's a maniac riding offroad: Muy Rapido!

Sounds like a plan. I promise not to overload a big bike on the Copper Canyon trip like this guy did:

EDIT: I realize being in a group will really help. Riding some of the logging roads in winter around here gets pretty lonely, especially without a GPS or any other riders or ATV's on the trails/roads the past few weeks. Maybe that says something about whether I should go where nobody else is going? LOL

Jesu Cristo, Dios Mio y Que Lastima! Those GS's were stupidly over loaded! All I am going to be packing on my GS is what I will be wearing and what can fit into my BMW tank bag. Everything else will go on the support truck. I do fully realize the blokes were camping around Mexico, but they should have just considered shipping their heavy goods ahead of themselves!!

That is infamous Rio Urique, all of us will be crossing it many times. You, Joe and I will "spot" each other for the passages!!!

I'm with you Don. We will need to help each other.

My problem is the back. If I drop the bike it will be

really hard for me to get it up. I will be working on that.

Will have to build a little body strength in the next 10 months,as the KLR is heaver

than my other dual sports I owned.

Just saw the video of Ric.

You are right Don, We will not be that heavy.

Two guys can barley get it up.

Not for me.

I can pick up a lightly loaded KLR without much problem. Though my back isn't great, I am fairly strong in a short burst like picking bikes out of mud. It is my leg strength/stamina I need to work on, especially if we are riding on pegs for a length of time. I'll ride with you and Don if I can keep up and you don't mind. Los tres amigos ...

I have to work on my Spanish too.

Thank God there is some time, huh?

Shinny,Thanks for the reply. HT forgot to send out my stuff so it won't get here till Monday (wanted to install this weekend).

The tube you have, did you get it off ebay? I think I saw some on there.

Joe
Joe,

I was wondering if you installed the HT bash plate and nerf bars? Also wanted to let you know the 33 ounce (975ml) MSR gas bottle fits exactly inside a tractor manual tube like I have installed on my bike. A couple of strategically placed foam spacers between the bottle and tube will keep any rattling in check. I'm going to work on places to put one or two more tubes for the purpose on my KLR. It should extend my range up to 25 miles or so.

EDIT: I found out my local Kawi dealer (that also sells farm tractors/ATV's, etc.) has the tubes laying around. This will save me shipping.

Shiny,

I installed the HT bars last weekend. Since my is an 07 I had no problem.

I got two of the tractor tubes and have only put one on. I have some bars on the back that keep the soft luggage off the

the silencer. I attached one there. Haven't figured out where to put the other or if I want to.

I am a novice like you when it comes to this bike and the distance we will be going.

Thank god we have some time to practice.

I got some used rear racks to keep soft bags off the bodywork/exhaust. They might help in a tipover too. I'm thinking of using stainless cable ties to rig a tube on each rear rack for fuel in the MSR bottles, in addition to the one tube on my tail section. Short of dropping the bike off a cliff I think they would be safe there, and as a bonus, they would look like small rocket launchers or something. I'm still figuring all this out too. On the actual trip I plan to leave almost everything but tools/innertube and water in the chase vehicle.

If you have a chance could you post a ppic of where and how you mounted your tube?

Joe and Shiny, I really do not think that you are going to need to be packing any MSR fuel bottles. According to Skip, the fuel stops will only be 150 miles apart; having owned a 2006 Kawasaki KLR 650, I know their range is at least 250 miles!

BB has 4.5 gal tank on his KTM 525. Chris has the capacity on his KTM. Only fjrrider needs to address 530 KTM fuel range!

I am not worried about picking up mi Salma Hayek the first time; it is the sixth drop in a ten hour riding day that will kill me!

That AZ trip looked crazy. Those rocks look like they really hurt. Boy I wish I could see the videos but there being block here at work. What do they expect me to do, work! So Don are we going to hit some of those trails?

Already I see that us KTM boys are getting discriminating against. Don't be hating us cause we are orange :p

Chris: If you and any others can make it to Arizona with your dual sports, I'll lead the way to Coke Ovens and Four Peaks.

The roads west of Urique and Batopilas are "No Man's Land" to Papa Chuy; but I hear they can be as rough as these videos!!

You'll have your work cut out for you with the weight of your Adventure; BB and fjrrider will have it easy on the light KTM's!!

Don, don't need extra fuel, just using one for some extra tools.

Don't want the extra weight.

Shiny, I will see if i can post a picture as I have never done that and will

have to see about it. If I do it it will be after work.

Joe

Maybe I should take my light short TW 200.

The only problem with that is fuel. Not enough, but it sure is

a lot lighter than the KLR.

Thanks for the invite. I was thinking possibly after the Copper Canyon trip when I'm hanging out in AZ for a week.

I already made the Gurl lose about 15lbs by installing the single silencer. However you are right there Papa Chuy, I will have to get in really good shape for this ride. I still wish I had the bucks to buy a 530 or 690, but I just don't see it being in the cards at the moment. My goal is to have all my debts (other than house) paid off before the trip. This would really make this trip a celebration in a way for me. :yahoo:
