Today I got a spare key made, new battery, and cleaned the air filter.

Paid all bills and sent out all invoices.

Notified customers again I'm going to be gone for a while... Could be forever if I like it down there...

Got my hairs cut, and might shave tonight.... Not!.... :)

Are we there yet?

I made it to Leeds AL for a little side trip to the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum tomorrow. I'll hopefully have some decent photos to post up later. I also set up my SPOT and the link is:

Copper Canyon Trip

We had a good little visit with BikerGeek in Columbus last night at the Winking Lizard...

and got away before the crack of dawn for an uneventful drive south. I'll be spending roughly the next 3 days working my way over to El Paso to hook up with the rest of the hooligans.

Later...

Since I'm pulling my enclosed trailer I was just going to stick to I20 but I don't really have any firm plans other than to make El Paso no later than Saturday.

Thank You, Bill! With your kind permission in advance, I have placed your spot link over at the AZ Beemers Club Web site; so our Arizona friends can track Tucson Joe and Papa Chuy in Copper Canyon!

Today I got a spare key made, new battery, and cleaned the air filter.
Have you tried "Filter Skins"? Its just a very thin elastic cloth, put some filter oil on it, wrap around the exsisting filter and when it gets dirty pull it off.

Is anybody else getting the "I cant believe your going into Mexico, its so dangerous down there" If I had a dollar for every time I heard that I could pay for this trip!

Yes Mr Bill I would like to use your Spot Link as well. Seems the people in my office want to see everywhere I go.

Also Mr. Bill I know your bringing a Countour HD camera, and so am I. One question are you just gonna bring mutiple SD cards or are you gonna bring a laptop and download your videos?

I've heard of those, but never tried them.

Everybody I've told says the same thing.

+1, Gunny! I have been hearing this for 42 years now, ever since 1968 when I rode my 1964 Norton Atlas 750 down to El Rosario en Baja California Norte, Mexico.

Not saying that Mexico is now as safe as it was way back then, but I usually fire back at them: "Let's go to dinner tonight in South Phoenix!" That scares them too!

fjrrider, you could use the exact same line, except just substitute Alma, Arkansas for South Phoenix; that should scare the living hell out of them too! jes' sayin'!!!

Quick question...

Do we need to bring our original bike titles or just a copy?
I'm bringing everything.

I can leave what I don't need in the truck...

I kinda have a feeling rules can change at any time down there...

But that's jus the way I am...

Amigos,

We're days away from gathering in El Paso for the first running of the Copper Canyon Explorer. I hope you are as excited as we are.

Here area couple of last minute bits of information:

THE WEATHER

El Paso forcasts show mid 70's and sunshine for the days and crisp mid 40's at night. Perfect! Look for similar temperatures in the Sierras.

Once descending into the canyon however be prepared for warmer temperatures, even into the 90's as we head west into Sinaloa and Sonora

DOCUMENTS

A reminder that on Sunday Nov 7th we will be making the 30 minute run from the Hawthorn Suites ( our rendezvous hotel) to the New Mexico crossing at Santa Teresa in order to get as many riders the necessary travel and motorcycle import permits. Don't forget your passport and ORIGINAL registration OR title of your motorcycle in YOUR name. We will meet in the hotel lobby at 11 a.m. so be prepared to join us. If you have a vehicle on a trailer or in your truck I suggest you leave it loaded and we will caravan over. Please be fluid and flexible as these plans may change.

RIDING OR TRAILERING TO MEXICO

Our estimates are that we will have ample room for all bikes and people for the transport leg to Creel...but it could be a tight fit. Therefore anyone, especially those of the larger displacement (650 cc plus) bikes who would like to volunteer to ride to Creel, we would like to offer $100. Again, this is just a precautionary note. This is our first time encountering this particular logistic and I'm seeking a Plan B in the event our space calculations are shy.

PACK LIGHT

At the risk of boring you, we again urge you to pack light. Packing gear in a weather proof Ortlieb type bag is best as gear will be exposed to the elements. Excess gear and luggage can be stored in El Paso.

YOUR STAFF

We have a healthy staff to client ratio on this tour to assure the best of service and knowledge. On bikes will be Alfonso "Chicon" Munoz and Barak Naggan, both experienced world travelers. At the wheel of the support vehicle will be Shelly "Conchita" Crook, (also a great rider) who brings an impressive history of years in the fire service an all the wilderness skills and caring attitude that goes with it. Lending regional and local expertise will be Ivan Fernandez to provide cultural, historical and natural insight. What a team!

If you have any additional questions please drop me a note or call. Should you be coming from the West on IH 10 and wish to make your own way over to the Santa Teresa border crossing to secure your permits, feel free to do so (remember no firearms!). Exit 8 and follow the signs. There will be willing people to assist you with the process.

Here is my cell number. (210) 557-8471 I'll see you in El Paso!

Saludos,

Skip Mascorro

Hey Chris, did you catch this one? $100 would buy a lot of Cerveza y Tequila en Chihuahua Estado. If you ride your Big Gurl and I ride mi Salma Hayek, this would help with our alcohol tab! Won't affect those tea totaling Arkies and Texans any, though!

Go ahead and use the SPOT link for your friends. As to the other question I am packing the laptop to download even though I have a 16 Gig card but I need the laptop to charge the battery in the helmet camera plus I perfer to download my photos each night. If we have internet access I would like to post on ADV Rider but I'm thinking that will probably not be possible on most nights.

I spent the morning at the Barber Museum and it brought back a lot of memories. I'm hoping to get something posted later tonight on ADV Rider.

That's right Papa Chuy, there's no way I can pass up a deal like that. :yahoo: Damn just think in AR that would buy you a truck load of beer!! :D Besides the Big 'o' gurl is going to want to stretch her legs wheels after being in back of truck for so long. ;)

Scott,

Where did you find them? I just recently installed a Prefilter (UNI) and couldn't find the skins anywhere.

I just got some from the local motorcycle shop here. I've got several I'm bringing so I'll have a few extra if you want to try a few.
