Yamaha Canada covered my seals at 35,000 miles - no comments about wheelies, though they did chastise me for not doing a fork oil flush . . . the right side caliper seals were taken out by the leak - Yamaha covered those as well..

The machine is at the dealer now having the rear drive seals replaced and (finally) my third headlight reflector installed - warranty runs out May 1 . . . . extended warranties can pay, even when they are the overpriced Canadian ones.

Then again, after a false start who knows when Spring will arrive in Montreal - it is hailing lightly as I write this..

Bah... Forty shmorty!

I just got back from a couple hours of blasting around New Hampshire, and on the V-strom with little to no wind protection. Just gotta layer up. And dithering a lot helps too. But it did give me an "opportunity" to test out my newly installed Oxford heated grips!! (they worked well)

I only went out this bleak afternoon because I know it's going to be even colder and raining tomorrow. :angry:

Actually, I would have gone out for a ride this afternoon too, except I'm not riding this bike any distance until I strip it down and make sure it is back together right. I also have to fix that rubbed raw ABS sensor wire that I temporarily patched before my bike took the truck ride.

Fred, I think you should buy that Ducati 900 and offer again to let me ride one of your bikes.

Does anyone know if a leaking fork seal should be covered under warranty? Or, is it a wear item, like brakes and clutch plates?

Had my seals replaced under YES warranty on my 2007 with 30900 miles a month ago I had the seals, bushings and oil replaced by dealer. He submitted to Yamaha and I got reimbursed for everything but oil I was not the only one on the forum to have this result. So go for it.

Thanks, Slardy. Yamaha agreed to rebuild the forks. Parts are on the way.

For my 2007 AE, both fork seals were leaking and the dealer said it is wear and tear. I said I only had 12K and only ride major roads. They submitted under YES but were scepticle on the outcome. A couple of weeks later, the dealership sent me a refund. It may have helped that the dealership knew my riding habits for 20 years.

Following dealer installation of the new wiring harness, and my installation of Brodie's harness, I pulled the Forks and took them into the Dealership yesterday for a full rebuild under warranty. Went back and got them a couple of hours later and put the bike back together. Everything is good. The bike runs better now than it did before all the harness hoohaw. As I posted elsewhere, I think these bikes are suffering from low grade, non-fatal grounding issues all the time.

That very well may be. I recall someone in the past few months claimed his fuel mileage was suffering and then after installing the Brodie ground harness it snapped back to normal 40+ mpg.

As I posted elsewhere, the buzz I had been chasing since last Fall disappeared with the new harness. No other changes were made - the bike just smoothed back out.

I don't think you're dreaming about the buzz. When my spider failure occurred, I had a buzz from the front of the bike while I was troubleshooting the failure. Not sure if it was the windshield motor attempting to drive past the stops or a relay being energized in reverse (I never did look if they have diodes built in?), but something electrical was buzzing whenever I had failure symptoms (headlights dead and numerous dash lights on at once).

My bad, I didn't explain it properly. The buzz was definitely an rpm relative engine vibration.
