Son of a *****....!

I just got through releasing all 95 bikes at the start of the IBR.

When I got to Doug Chapman (who is the ISP that hosts FJRForum.com), he pointed to his Datel and revved his engine to 4000 RPM.

Daaaaaaaaymn........ 11.9 volts!!!!

He is on his way to the Arch over St Louis..... he should know by then if it's just a wet connector, or whether his stator is smoked. If the latter, then he obviously has a huge problem.

Doug is riding with Ignacio..... I'm sure we will hear if Doug's problem is fatal or not sometime today.

He did put the ElectroSport high-output stator in many months ago.... it has been perfect up until this point.

Mind you, it was raining like a big dog all morning, so maybe - hopefully - it's just a transient problem due to moisture intrusion somewhere.

More later as I hear what's going on.....

Krashdragon in Medina OH has one for sale posted on the forum....maybe sorta possibly on the route???

Bummer, hope it heals once it dries out!

Before blaming/changing the stator Doug really needs to check the electrical connections between the Electrosport and the rectifier/regulator. Depending on how he made those connections he may be able to check the quality of the connections by peeking through the faring. While pulling my radiator out I was shocked to see how much heat damage there was between the Electorsport wires and my R/R. Sometimes there is enough heat that a spade connector can expand and slip off, even when heat shrink was used.

Update as of 11:30 Central Daylight Time:

Iggy called while underway..... Doug's Datel has climbed to 12.5 volts at speed, a little better but obviously still not a good situation. He and Iggy are going to continue as long as they can.... they are headed to some big, big bonuses in upstate Maine.

They aren't stopping to inspect anything..... they are headed northeast.

I'm near Harrisburg, PA. Not sure which way he's going to get to Maine (hopefully not via I90 that can be a pain with tolls and traffic). If he's coming further across 70 I'm 3 minutes off if I-81 - Exit 61. If he's near me and needs a hand/tools/my stocker off of my '04, he's welcome to all.

If Iggy's blog is accurate, and if Star Traxx is somewhat accurate, they'll be going within 3 miles of my house somewhere around 11 pm/midnight - I'm less than 3 miles off of I81 - Wertzville Rd Exit 61. If there's any way to contact them, anything I have is theirs and they can call at any time - I'm a true night owl. Even if they want to fill their hydration units or if they need a place to catch an hour or 2 of sleep. I have extra bedrooms, rain suits, dry gloves, gerbings, assless chaps (oops, did i say that out loud?), etc.

Looks like a pack of about 6 bikes around Indianapolis right now that are heading on the same route. Weather is pretty ****** around Indy. As long as they stay on 70, they're just below the real nasty stuff, but, they'll eventually have to head north and that's when it will get worse. If any of the other riders are taking the route that gets them north quicker, like picking up 71 around Columbus, I think they'll be getting into the heart of the storm sooner and it will be a long 1st day. I knew those rally *******s were tough, but, planning a storm to follow the route with nice bonii??? Insane!

Any more updates? I don't know that I can do any good in Texas, but we're all (as a community) interested in hearing how it goes.

Dale:

There are two main possibilities (and solutions). Its either the rectifier unit (which is a plug and play unit) or the stator.

I sent a PM to Ignacio (yes I know he wont be checking there, but just in case) earlier that he was passing within 1.5 hours of my place (just west of Ottawa). If they can limp that far I offer my services. Here's the deal: My bike is up on blocks at the moment anyways so I can donate my rectifier if it helps. I've got shop space and tools to make the swap. I've got room for them to crash and get some sleep and food. And.... I have a spare stator. It is the unit I removed when I installed the Electosport earlier this year. Its got some miles on it but it was working just fine when I removed it. I dont have a gasket and I cut the connector off when I did the stator swap. It also doesn't have the output of the electrosport. But in a pinch like this I could work around both problems and make these fixes on the bike while they are off napping.

I am assuming your going to act as contact person on this one, so PM me if they want to take advantage of this.

- Colin

I've also got an Electrosport stator sitting in the box waiting (for my procrastinating *** to get up) to be installed in my bike. Let me know if it might help.

Not sure how I can help Doug, but I think PonyFool had an assless chaps emergency over the weekend...maybe he still needs help, Randy?

Okay, okay, serious now. It is so cool to see this outpouring of support to help a brother out. Way to go FJR Forum!

Randy - I went to Star Traxx and found the IBR section, but what bike # is Iggy (or Doug)? I only see bike numbers listed - no names...

Thanks!
