I mean REALLY tiny. Almost insignificant. NO problem with the motor.

But for what it's worth, a problem. The high beam indicator on the dash isn't working.

Now I can't read a wiring diagram fer crap. My eyes go all wobbly trying to follow all those lines, but here's the current situation.

Still leaving the plastic off for a couple of days...just in case...so the front turn signals/running lights and the 4-way flasher switch are out of the circuit. Don't know if that would matter, but hell, ya never know what grounds what on this silly machine.

Could someone who CAN read the wiring diagram in your FSM see if having the running lights/turn signals and 4-way flasher switch left out of the circuit cause the high-beam indicator not function?

It could save me some time by NOT putting all the plastic back on, just to have to take it all off again to pull the gauge cluster to replace a burned out bulb.

BTW, Frankenbike runs like a swiss watch. SWEET!

I'm VERY happy. :yahoo:

13 minute later edit: Oh fuggit....just hooked up the turn/running lights and 4-way flasher switch...still no high beam indicator. Damn....nose is coming back off and gauge cluster to undergo invasive surgery. <_< Something to do this weekend besides ride, I guess.

Ya fuker! Ya took all the fun outa it!

Howie, you ought to replace all the bulbs while you're in there, or you'll be replacing them in the near future. My opinion.

While you're at it you might as well rotate the air in your tires and tighten the spoke nipples...my weak opinion.

Great to hear it is running great. You should just put it all back together and ride it. Set the lights on high beam and just go. If it is bothering anyone they will let you know! Why waste more time working on it when you could be making up for lost riding time.

Actually, you have 2 problems.

1.) The high beam indicator.

2.) The pilot is U-G-L-Y (and looks old).

Seriously, Howie, the best suggestion came from Grumpy. The right side of my dash went "dark" so I followed Ignacio's post an replaced all the bulbs.

Uhm....at this rate you're going to wear out the body screws.

Way to go Howie!!! I think you should enjoy your victory and go riding. Save the high beam indicator for another day.

Caveat: my wiring diagram is an '03, but yours ought to be the same, being another Gen-I.

If you've got 12 volts at the yellow wire in the connector at the meter assembly with the bike running and high beams on, then you've got juice to the high beam indicator.

If you've got a ground on the black/white wire in that connector (and I can never remember if that's black with white stripe or white with black stripe) then you have a good ground for the high beam indicator. Don't bother checking that, because it's also the ground for turn signal indicators, check engine light, gauge illumination, and the gauges themselves, and since the other stuff works, the ground is good. (The other stuff does work, right? You didn't mention no gauges, no clock, no turn signal indicators, etc. etc. etc.)

If you've got juice but no lamp, then it's burned out.

And what's this about screwing bodies till you're worn out????

RadioHowie, wfooshee is as right as rain; I grabbed my 2003 Factory FJR Manual when I saw Post #1, but indeed if all is as wfooshee says, with the yellow wire and black/white wire: By process of elimination (not shitting!) almost has to be the bulb!

I am kind of ticked off at my Northern California buddy Big Mike: I wanted to add, your being Old and Ugly to the check list!!

Ummm, maybe the bulb's just cutting him some slack by not illuminating this fact. :p

Outstanding point, Zorlac! I have heard when he kisses and tucks in his nieces, nephews and grandkids at their bedtime:

Bedroom light has to be out, or the poor kids toss and turn with nightmares all night long! Has to sneak up on a water glass!
