Priceless!

Looks like a little kid on Christmas morning.

Congrats. A used motor is a gamble and it sounds like you just rolled boxcars.

Yep.....I messed up her hair. :D

Not so in my case. Grumpy's motor was (relatively) low mileage, even as an 03 compared to my 04, plus it came highly recommended by HaulinAshe. It was a no-brainer.....or in other words, PERFECT for me.

Right On, Big Sky! Sums it up just perfectly, RadioHowie does look exactly like a little kid on Christmas morning. Priceless!
Beats hell out of the zero/zip/nada I got for Christmas LAST year.....and the obvious alien abdominal implant I got for my birthday.

Got home just before sunset today. NEEDED to ride Frankenbike again, but with the sun going down and no lights.....well, you know.

So put the nose back on. Four nuts for the mirrors, four screws to the front sub-frame, two headlight connectors, one glovebox connectors and off we go.

Put about 30 miles on the resurrection. Damn...how did I live SO long without the Feej! What a bike! Rex may get relegated to "yesterday's news" again.

I can honestly say the '03 motor does feel stronger than my memory of my '04 motor, but interestingly, I think the tranny isn't quite as smooth as the '04. Not terribly bad, mind you, but a tiny bit clunkier at lower-rev gear changes. Simple solution, just shift later. :D

On the way back home, about 2 miles from the house, I run through some mis-aimed sprinklers and the water felt good. Rejuvenating. Keep driving another few blocks, and damn, I'm still getting wet! Jebus, it's started raining! And I have no windshield to duck down behind! Pull into my driveway, into the garage, and the second I put down the sidestand and turn off the bike, the bottom falls out of the sky!

Someone was watching out for me. Thanks, Feejer Gods. :)

Grabbed some dinner and went back to work.

Is Frankenbike looking more like a Feejer now?

Almost there. :D

You're rollin - You ARE there!
Enjoy your "new "bike.

Just don't forget Rex. :bye2:

By the way, did you make a final adjustment on the APE, or was your static setting sufficient?

Damn you're good! How did you know?

Yeah, I checked it a little while ago after it was cool enough to grab the adjuster screw with my fingertips. Loosened the locknut and tried to give it a good twist. Wouldn't budge using only my fingers. I'm sure I could snug it up more with a screwdriver, but I think "finger tight" is more than sufficient.

Trust me, that unit is good for production, if you ask me. Let APE know it's aces. With that big-*** 17mm locknut on the adjuster shaft, it ain't coming loose by itself.

I''l check it every week or so for the next month, just to see if the chain is "bedding in", and then take a look again at my next oil change, coming up at 50k miles...probably around Thanksgiving. I've got a buddy living on a 40 foot motor yacht in the Fla. Keys I haven't seen for a couple of years, and that's a good reason and time of year to hit the road.

edit: Oh, and the first dickwhistle who says something about ATGATT can suck my balls!
An Aerostitch would cut a trimmer figure. It's sucking beers that looks like the problem.... :D
Really not beer. Really. It's actually a complete and total lack of any abdominal muscle structure due to six major abdominal surgeries in the last 8 years.

Good night, my friends. I'm off.

RH,

To paraphrase Chris Berman of ESPN, who was quoting someone else " What a long, strange trip it's been"

Congrats on getting FRANKENBIKE mobile.

Enjoy

I thought that was a Grateful Dead line?

Maybe you're just a youngster! :p
Or maybe you're too senile too catch the tongue firmly planted in his cheek.

The main thing is...that long trip is over and it looks like Howie is lookin' to make up for lost time. B)

And now it's time for Howie to get Truckin'...

Most of the cats that you meet on the street speak of true love,

Most of the time they're sittin' and cryin' at home.

One of these days they know they gotta get goin'

Out of the door and down on the street all alone.

<snip>

Sometimes the light's all shinin' on me;

Other times I can barely see.

Lately it occurs to me, What a long, strange trip it's been.
