That is an awesome looking addition to the bike, and the lines follow really good.

I guess a tank bag would be difficult to be used, but it's worth the sacrifice for the extra fuel.

One, question; This extra fuel(for sure will increase the top-heavy weight) will it make the bike unstable?

3-3.5 gal of extra fuel would add quite a bit of weight, and moving weight at that.

6.25lb x 3= 18.75lbs fuel at full tank volume; That much weight added with the additional metal

does it change the performance of the bike? Thinking...ie..cornering and lean angle control.

Did you add a divider/half partition in the tank to keep the moving liquid to a minimum? (like tanker trucks)

With all that said, and surely already considered...If ride and performance are all but equal, this would

be a great farkle to add to any bike, much more attractive than a metal box on back.

Of course wheelie's opportunities would be greatly compromised...lol

Seriously, looks fantastic. The lines are such that I'm sure even the initial designer of the FJR wouldn't be offended. Yamaha could've even offered this as an option, but you've innovated!

When I filled it it was just over 8 1/2 gals. so a xtra 13 lbs. or so . I widened it at the widest point so some of the weight is negated,as this tanks is actually only a 1 1/2 higher than a stock tank. I see not that many problems with running a tank bag as long as you don.t have it expanded up. DID I SAY 8 1/2 GALLONS?? God,that's fun to say!!! Most of my riding is right down the Interstate. That is why I am doing this. I very rarely get into twisties ,but I still don't think it will be very different.If the Iron butt guys could slip this one by as a stock tank and then run they're IBR legal auxillary tank,they would be set ,wouldn't they?.....and the price goes up...

I'm thinking around 200,000 pesos(I hope that ain't 50.00)! No seriously ,It's not done so I don't know.All that I know is it is a lot of work and the body work& especially the paint are not cheap. I will get this finished then I will try to figure out what this would take to do again. It is not out of the question though.

I know this is a labor of love. You couldn't make any money off that with all the intricate work you put into it. Not that many people could justify spending what you would have to charge just to pick up 3 more gallons.

It sure looks great though, and you have the only one!

Really, really excellent DT ! I'm amazed at the capacity you gained while still keeping the bikes lines clean. Are you planning to attend any FJR meets when its finished ?

Oh c'mon Dirttracker. Run over to the quad cities and run up the river to SE MN or SW WI. There are a lot of great roads that will challenge anyone.

I think your tank looks great. I don't think the extra weight will make one twit of difference. At least no more than a well stocked tankbag. Heck there are times I carry that much weight in my Darien jacket!. Plus, the weight in your tank will be gone after the first 80 miles or so, so I call it a non issue. Besides, it is a 2006. They can take anything! (after all applicable recalls...)

Hey MP, I was just up in Minn. a few weeks ago for the shakopee Mile National. Your right though ,I don't think the xtra fuel will be a issue. I just can't wait for my brother and my other friend,who both ride BMW GT 's, to pull up beside me pointing at their gas tanks and yelling they need fuel!!
