The best gear for protection while being the rider or pilotis LEATHER

Argue all you want it still is LEATHER

weekend rider

Asphalt and concrete will eat anything that we wear that slides on it.

That SUCKS!

I don't have anything to add that hasn't been said. Glad you two walked away and remember. Bikes can be repaired/replaced.

+1 on the leather. I frequently travel to the UK and notice that it's much more accepted to wear full leathers. I even see the scooter riders in full suits, sliders and all.

Get well quick and hopefully it won't take too much to get the bike back on the road!

Choose your Kevlar carefully. My Draggin shirt tore as easily as the cords I
I have a Draggin shirt and this disturbs me. Did the seams give way or did it rub through?

And Keith the gear you show rubbed through, I THOUGHT was good. Olympia and Alpine Stars isn't it?
Shirt tore like cotton. Very disappointed in it. It was a very low speed fall

and it tore through!

Very glad to hear you're both not badly injured. I guess it could have been very different. I was out with the wife yesterday and neither of us had decent leg protection - will learn from your experience!

Take care

Tom.

Keith,

Speedy recovery to you and your pillion!! Sorry to hear about your bike as well, I know you worked hard to get it back on the road.

JW

Sorry to hear of such a thing happening again to you so soon Keith.

Best wishes and regards to you and your pillion................Your piccies of her as I remember she's a cutie!! So I'm sure she will have that cute bobo for only a little while.

Please keep us all posted on how things go with the feejer, we would all like to know. Glad to know you both came through w/only superficial injuries which will heal.

That piccie of the hardley dude..............is that the rash on his arm or his manly hardley tat's?

Jebus, Keith!!! I can't go work on the bike for a minute, lest I come back to this?!!!!

Very glad to hear injuries were kept to a minimum, but sorry about your bike. Geez, louise. If there is anything I can do to help, just holler.

All hail, President Keith!

Both. Judging from how deep the raod rash was on his arms, his tatoos are mostly gone now.

Mike

Well, I already said all the hopes and whatnots earlier in this thread. Now, Today, I went out and bought my SO some good pants to go with her Good jackets and gloves/boots.

Best to you my friend. KNow that I have seen one other (at least) person besides me go buy more gear as a result of this thread. Some good has already come of it. Now just take care of yourself and your SO

Wow, another bites it, and as mentioned glad you and the wife are alive and doing well. This keeps us in reality check and as many have mentioned about the importance of riding gear I use the Bohn under pants, (no poking or jabbing please), and while I expect the mesh gear to tear away in a crash the armor in the Bohn gear.... Bohn Pants will hopefully stay in place. Leather in my area in the summer is out of the question due to the temps. So hope your back in the saddle soon and fully recovered. PM. <>< :good:

Just from your thread I did not feel the need to ride in any gravel at all.

I went to the races at Infineon race way And the gate that I go and park was closed and got sent to the front of the track I was on the FJR and the only choice of roads up and down rolling hill sfor about a mile was hard packed dirt with yes you guessed it "Gravel". I was 1 up so easy to ride but could have gone down very easliy on that dam gravel. So I now havel my gravel riding experience out of the way for riding. And getting ready to hit the road soon.

My tip for riding gravel when 1 up ride like you are an enduro rider stand-up steady throttle and squeeze the tank with your knees and lean forward towards the bars. No Brakes all throttle control smooth action. best technique for not going down askk the dirt riders they know

weekend rider :) :D

I raced motocross for years and have done a lot of general off-road cycling. Dealing with gravel on the road and off the road are, most often, two entirely different things. No situation presents an absolute certainty, but hitting gravel on the road....in any appreciable amount and in an unexpected and sudden occurence....while in a leaning attitude, is going to lead to a spill. There are certainly exceptions, and good riding skills are always a huge plus, but " ole man gravel " is going to win most of these contests. Ride aware and hope you don't have to deal with crap in the road.

Ouch! Could have been worse, a truck could have come round the bend while you had the bikes parked there!

Sorry just trying to make you smile....get well soon.

OUCH !! Glad you're both OK.

Me & Deb BTDT a coupla years ago. Deb was wearing armored pants though and a rock STILL managed to work it's way into her knee. She sends Sara her best :)

Day-um Keith

I spent the last few days almost incommunicado traveling in a ..er... rogue state and wasn't aware of your crash until now.

Sorry bro, this sh*t happening so soon after the previous asphalt encounter is the last thing you needed.

It reminds me eerily of my own 2-up getoff. The bike just went. Scary thing, the FJR being otherwise steady as a rock.

As you pointed out, 2-up is another ballgame entirely...

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help...

Stef

Definately glad no car was coming around the bend!

Our other rational to make this not so bad was:

"It was good you were riding with me. If you weren't with me I would have been riding a lot faster, and it may have been me down the ditch against the tree."

Very much so.....

After it all, I was thinking about how this is almost exactly what you said happened to you. Minus the Harley coming around the bend and crashing on the same patch of gravel.

It is simply amazing I have been to Italy and met Teerex51 but less than 3 miles away never been able to get together with Keithaba
