I just wanted to get a feeler out there for what kind of fuel everyone is running I:E octane/Brand. Someone has mentioned when they run 89 or higher octane plus or premium they experience a surging. I run 91 and have no surge. The owners manual calls for [(R+M)/2] of 86 or higher.

I simply fill up with regular from whatever gas station I am near when I need it, and haven't noticed any surging.

Most of the gas in this area is 10% Ethanol. No preference for brand and I think it's all 87 octane, but I really don't pay much attention.

You should be using only regular gas. Anything else would just be a waste of money.
That's all you need right there. Tell me this - WHY are you running 91 octane when the manual says 86?

Annnnnnd...............off to it's proper home.

I know needless reoccurring pointless thread... oops I should have done a search...

The manual calls for 86 or higher. Meaning to me preferred higher octane. I may try a tank of 87 and see what happens.

And AWAYYY We goooo!!!!! :dribble:

I here if ya take a dump in your tank you'll get better mileage. Don't even ask what ya need to do to your exhaust. :p

I tried that, the officer that happened by the gas station was not to happy about that.... I will let you know how my court date goes.

Actually, if memory serves........the manual doesn't call for '86 or higher' but a 'mininum of 86' then says something about using higher octane if you get knocking (like GunMD's retarded FJR)

What I was trying to get at, is WHY is higher octane preferred to you? Yes, this is a trick question, and you will be dogpiled shortly. ;)

First owners manual at my fingertips, it states 86 or higher. Second I feel with the FJR's compression level being 10.80:1 the higher octane will achieve better performance, dog pile me baby. :clapping:

Trust me, turd boy, I used 87 until I couldn't stand it anymore. I only use the higher octane for one reason. My bike isn't faster, doesn't get better mileage, doesn't pick up more chicks (as if that's even possible), and doesn't do better stoppies. It just keeps it from knocking...that's all.

 Ah! yer gonna fit in just fine :good: ya ready? :drinks:

:jester:

Why thank you mate!!! :drinks: And my psychiatrist said I would never fit in anywhere... :yahoo:

Ok, I'll cede the owner's manual verbage.

Now, on to bigger and better things.....

You 'feel'? Freakin Kali treehugger. You 'feel'!!!

Never mind all those pesky engineers who are telling you that 86 octane is PERFECTLY FINE. I guess you know more than them. There is more than just compression ratio to consider in determining what octane an engine runs best on. Try out some your search skills and look for posts by 'Jestal' among others in the plethora of octane threads on this site. You might learn something.

Your FJR is not going to achieve any better performance by putting high octane gas in it. Nope. T'aint happening surfer dude.

Now, go try a Fitch Fuel Catalyst if you really want some more mo-jo in your go-go juice.

:p
