Second I feel with the FJR's compression level being 10.80:1 the higher octane will achieve better performance, dog pile me baby. :clapping:
Ok, I'll cede the owner's manual verbage.

Now, on to bigger and better things.....

You 'feel'? Freakin Kali treehugger. You 'feel'!!!

Never mind all those pesky engineers who are telling you that 86 octane is PERFECTLY FINE. I guess you know more than them. There is more than just compression ratio to consider in determining what octane an engine runs best on. Try out some your search skills and look for posts by 'Jestal' among others in the plethora of octane threads on this site. You might learn something.

Your FJR is not going to achieve any better performance by putting high octane gas in it. Nope. T'aint happening surfer dude.

Now, go try a Fitch Fuel Catalyst if you really want some more mo-jo in your go-go juice.

:p
Ok I shall read away and ejumicate me dumb so cali surfer boy self. Don't hate just because you can't find the beach from AZ. :jerry: Fitch fuel catalyst eh, I will conduct an investigation in to the legitimacy of your claim and render a judgment based upon the findings of said investigation. Hows that for Cali talk????

Trust me, turd boy, I used 87 until I couldn't stand it anymore. I only use the higher octane for one reason. My bike isn't faster, doesn't get better mileage, doesn't pick up more chicks (as if that's even possible), and doesn't do better stoppies. It just keeps it from knocking...that's all.
I never said anything about your FUGLY P.O.S. faggoty FJR's need for premium having anything to do with performance or it's ability to pick-up drunk gay marines. It's just one of the very few that knocks using normal octane gas apparently. That makes it special. As in the little school bus? As in RETARDED!!!

My bike knocks when I use 87 octane.
Well then. You must have a retarded FJR. Just like it's owner.
Actually, if its knocking, its because its too far advanced :nerd: .

If you want to solve the knocking problem without an octane boost, you can build up your head gasket with JB Weld to lower compression  , or you can retard the timing  .

Just be careful that you don't "knock it up." :download: Interspecies experiments with tailpipes and such are to be discouraged  .

I too use 87octane in my 06 and I have always had a bit of surging at low speeds mostly 3rd gear through town. Recently started using the premium grade and so far no surging.?? And I figure there isn't enough diff. in the price so why not run the good stuff.

Really?

Sorry, but octane will have nothing to do with surging. Must have been something else. And so why, specifically, is higher octane gasoline 'the good stuff'?

Amazing the mythical properties associated with octane. Much like those fancy elixirs sold after the Civil War, it can cure all sorts of ills and is repsonsible for unlimited benefits. Now, if it could only get beemerdons laid.

This thread is obviously in the NEPRT forum for a reason.

Really, its true that if you don't need the octane to keep from knocking, then there's no reason to pay for it.

However, with some brands of gasoline, you get more detergent with the premium grade. Detergent keeps injectors and valves clean. Its probably a bigger deal for the injectors than the valves.

Here is the url for fuels that have committed to include adequate detergent, adequate being specified by BMW, GMC, Toyota, and others.

In my 4 wheel vehicles, I generally choose the lowest octane that doesn't knock from a reputable gas supplier. In the bikes I tend to "foolishly squander my money" by buying premium for the extra detergent.

FWIW, motorcycle engines aren't that prone to knock because of the relatively small combustion chambers. A car with a compression ratio of 10:1 might want more than 87 octane, but its common for bikes with 10:1 or 11:1 compression ratios to be perfectly happy with 87 even though they typically have more aggressive timing advance than the aforementioned car.

Regular works just fine and dandy, boys. Now, all y'all quite all this bickerin' and get ta ridin! Nothin' worse then hearin' a bunch Feej'rs acting like girlie men whining about octane and have Bust come in with dumping in the tank, and a hoochie dog turd... Ya know.... this is just going down hill real fast. I'm done... for now...

Wow, SquidderG, it's really nice to see that you feel compelled to "pay back" the efforts that so many put forward for you...specifically at WFO in Reno*.

:dribble: :D

* Even if those efforts were all for nothing...

Someone got laid....it just wasn't him. No biggie.......he's got a right hand...he can take care of himself.

Ok bottom line is yes you can run a lower octane and not have a knocking problem or ping but, you are also going to experience a lose in POWER!!!!!! The computer has what is called a knock sensor, like on cars and if a knock or ping is detected it ******* the timing to eliminate said knock, so engine damage does not occur. There is a bike in your garage go ride her and enjoy her, over and out. :yahoo:

And your qualification and background for this opinion is....?????

Since we do have a number of engineers who are members of the FJR Forum and some of them are involved with automotive engines and testing who take a position opposite of yours, some background and support evidence (vis a vis: test results from an independent study) for your statements might be in order.

That's what we were doing, and quite successfully and peaceably until SOMEONE started this discussion......

.....then didn't like the answers that disagreed with their supposition.

:yahoo:

And it isn't even Friday......

Ok, I'll cede the owner's manual verbage.
Somebody mark down this day in history! Skooter actually admits to being wrong! HO-LEE-****!
Actually....I did mark it on my calendar....and it was Friday the 13th! B)
