I've already got a GPS (2610), but Garmin just came out with the latest in the Streetpilot series... the 2820... So all you 27XX owners are now behind the technology curve like the rest of us...

My intent is to copy others using a techmount stemstand with a touratech bracket (whenever they restock them).

One drawback I see to the 2820 is it doesn't look like it will come with the GXM 30™ XM smart antenna.

Everything I have seen says it is optional.

If you want XM radio, traffic or weather you need an XM antenna.

The 2730 includes this $250 option in the box.

With street prices of the 2730 being around $850, even if the 2820 can be had for close to that...

Makes for quite the expensive bluetooth option/upgrade.

Maybe this is the GPS you buy if you have no interest in XM services??

The 2 bluetooth options I have seen will cost an extra ~$200 for a bluetooth upgrade to your sound system (autocom & starcom)

Having bluetooth (wireless) to your helmet for GPS, XM, MP3 (2820) would be nice.

What do you do for your radar then? (most important IMHO)

I still see a wired mixit2 being my near term solution.

Does anyone know--will any XM activated GPS perform any function advertised over an subscription (ie, can you get a GPS that does XM radio and weather such as the GPSMap 376c, and also have it doe XM Navigation, which is *not* advertised as a feature of that GPS)? If not, if a GPS is only able to do whatever XM tasks are advertised for it, then I'd rather have weather any day of the week. Now I'm looking at replacing my 276c; unfortunately Garmin still hasn't caught on and put their transreflective screens on any auto-nav units, so I'd prefer the 376, but also want the traffic information of the 27xx. *sigh* no perfect bike, no perfect gps..... *sigh*

I know everybody likes Garmin but don't forget Tomtom. I have a Rider and it has most of the features described here and costs much less. My Tomtom has worked great for me.

yeah, I'm more looking for animated weather maps, like the 376c has. I have been caught in torrential and somewhat frightening thunderstorms on a tour, when from a distance it looked like the storm was headed some direction away from us; come 'round a corner only to be hit with a wall of water. Last year it was outside Kansas City, and apparantly KC with the northernmost part of the storm. Had I headed north when I first started seeing yucky skies I could have completely avoided it. But from where we were it looked like we were going to miss it anyway, so we went on straight ahead, and then got pummeled. Storm was so bad that a semi in the opposite (thank jebus) direction jack-knifed and took out an two SUV's and a couple other cars, and completely blocked the interstate. We were doing 25mph on the interstate and having problems seeing, and nowhere was there a bridge to hide under. Sure would've like to miss THAT one. So animated weather maps are what I seek! Sounds like the 2820 doesn't fit that bill.....

I have a Bluetooth Scala Cardio Rider in my helmet and love it ($50 on ebay 150 retail) Voice activated dialing and hands free answering. I made a date with my dad for the morn while doing 80 on the highway and he thought I was on a landline. Will use a a bike to bike / rider/pass com sys. the only prob with this is if you get out of service range.

The bluetooth for the Starcom (BTM-01) is only to support a bluetooth cell phone, not to enable bluetooth to the helmet(s).
