Minor rant on Garmin MapSource. Move on if rants don't interest you.
I'm trying to get the hang of this software, I really am. But I find it so frustrating. Take the Find feature, for instance. I am, at this very minute, looking at a recommended seafood restaurant in Galveston. Fisherman's Wharf. Place has good reviews, and we'd like to check it out. Will MapSource find it? No ******* way. Not under Food and Drink, Seafood, not by name. Not by address, 3901 Ave O, Galveston, TX 77550. It can't find the intersection, which, according to Google maps is 37th and Ave O.
At no level of detail will it show the streets of downtown Galveston. This is CityNavigator North America v8. Most streets are simply not visible on the PC. How are you supposed to make a detail route?
I love my Garmin GPS. And it's and older model, a StreetPilot 2610. Great unit on the bike or in the car. But *******, MapSource is one piece of **** program.
Is there an alternative? I do routing now with Google maps, then painstakingly create waypoints in MapSource so that I can use those to plot a route. I must be doing it wrong, but I see no other way to get there. Without any map detail on screen, routing is a joke with MapSource.
OK, I'm done now. I'd love a piece of software that would allow routing at a detail level, point and click, and then download to the Garmin GPS. It sure as **** ain't MapSource.
