It gives you a code for the garmin web site. It updated mine to the 2011 from the 2009 maps. The statement on the website ( Garmin) says it gives you the most update maps available.

I bought the lifetime upgrade......... up to 4 updates per year. Even if you only did one every year for 3 years, it paid for itself......

Thanks for the heads up. I did the 29.99 upgrade via the link and got map version 2011.10.

I was going to buy the lifetime maps until reading that "lifetime" meant the lifetime of one specific device.

I just completed my upgrade on my Garmin nuvi 760 last night from Amazon.com. You can't go wrong for $29 bucks. I bought my Nuvi in 2008 and had not upgraded it since then. It worked great as long as I did not end up in a location that had recently changed or upgraded their highway system. And such a thing happened recently when I went into Phoenix with the family. The newly improved freeway system was not on my GPS and I became a little lost. The traffic in Phoenix is beginning to remind me of Los Angeles.

So this is a great deal. I went from a 2008 map to a 2011 map! Such a deal!!

did the update. worked great on my Zumo 550

Interesting phenomena with the feedback.

However, when putting in Garmin: Zumo : 550: it would show a pic of nuvi 550 and say it was compatible for the upgrade...

If anyone get's a good positive doing the 550, post up....34 (1 stars rating) is not good.

I also own the lifetime maps for the Zumo 660 and just did the map update the day after the release came out a few days ago. I am loading the maps fine but I seem to have some issues with the software upgrades? They show they are being downloaded but when I check it shows I need to do it over again.

I have a 2720 as well, but I think it might work. The big difference between the 2720 and 2610 (which I also have) is the 2720 uses the later Garmin mapping system which speaks the street names. It's some sort of different programming. The zumo and those all use it as well, so I'm wondering if the reason the 2720 isn't listed is only because it's old enough to no longer be supported by Garmin. BUT....it uses the same mapping system (or did in 2008 when I got the latest update) so I wonder if it'll work anyway.........

Me thinks a call to Garmin is in order to check on my old 2720's.....

Ok. Word is in after calling Garmin.

The new 2010/2011 maps WILL work with the 27xx and 28xx streetpilots. They use the same software and updates that the newest Zumo's use and whatnot, so as long as the map works with Zumo's, Nuvi's, etc, it'll work with the 27xx and 28xx Garmins.

There IS one issue though! - Albeit a small one for most folks....

The memory of the 27/28xx streetpilots is not big enough to hold the entire map of the US and Canada, so after you install City Navigator and Mapsource on your computer, you'll have to select which "region" to install on your GPS. I believe you just click and drag till you have something big enough, but, for example, me being on the east coast and wanting to do most of my riding there, I'll just install everything from central TX and east. If I wanted to ride to Las Vegas, I'd have to reinstall the maps to my GPS, and ensure that anything I'll be riding is preinstalled.

There's the word!

Thanks, Alexi!

This is a bit interesting. I thought the 27xx was big enough to hold the USA? I know I can put 50 maps and 10,000 POI in it, at least that is what they advertised way back. Never saw anywhere that the 50 maps had to be together or nearby within certain regions. I'm going to have to test that out.
